I just got a new Promise ATA/100 controller, and I'm wanting to bench my hard drive before and after installing it. All I really have for benchmarking right now is SiSoft Sandra, but I've heard it's not very good for hdd benching. So what good, free utilities are out there hard drive benching? I was planning on setting my IDE drives up like this when I install the card:
Controller --> Master on Cable 1: 40GB Hard Drive
Controller --> Master on Cable 2: 54x CD-ROM
Motherboard --> Master on Cable 3: 16x/48x DVD Drive
Motherboard --> Slave on cable 3: CD-RW Drive
Would this present any problems, or is there a better way of setting it up? I don't think I'll ever be trying to watch a DVD while burning a CD, so it should work. And lastly, what would be the best PCI slot to install my controller card into to avoid IRQ conflicts? I have an EPoX 8KHA running Win98SE with a 10/100 NIC in slot 2 and a sound card in slot 5. Sorry for all the questions, but advice is greatly appreciated, as always.
