Ok, so I'm in the market for a hard-drive based MP3 player. I've been adamently opposed to these things up until now because, to me, the purpose of a digital player is to ensure that no moving parts exist. It's just gotten to a point where I think the storage size and the reliability of playback have made me overcome my opposition.

I'm looking for a 40 gig player, but there are certain features that are really important to me. Number one is USB 2.0 compatability - if I'm going to be transferring large amounts of data, I want to be able to do so quickly...

I know the iRiver practically transfers at just under 3MB/s on the USB 2.0 connection... what's the speed of other players in comparison?

The second thing that's important to me is the method of transfer. Third-party software to drag/drop files into the player is bloated in my opinion, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the iRiver is the only player that supports this...

The third thing is the folder view - I know the iRiver supports both the indexing view and the folder view to browse through songs... Any others do that?

I do have questions for people who own this thing - how is the scrolling? How difficult is it to make a playlist? Or modify an existing playlist? Can this all be done via the remove? Is the remote useful? Tell me your experiences about the useability of this thing please...

Finally, the main thing is size - which the iRiver is kind of weak in. It's about the same size as an iPod, has longer batteries, but costs a bit more... The Rio Karma really shines here, because it's so tiny. Any thoughts?

And just an after-thought - I want to replace my current flash-card player.... It would be *great* if there was a player out there that could connect directly to the iRiver for file transfer so I didnt need a computer - is this possible? I was hoping if I bought an iriver flash player, this may be possible.

Thanks for the help! Just so many questions to ask before I drop like $750!
