Hard Drive Backup and Synchronization Utility?

I currently purchased an external hard drive and am looking for a software which would do backups to certain files and folders periodically and synchronize the involved files and folders.

What do you guys recommend? Preferably free, but don't mind paying some $ for a good utility.

I use Second Copy 2000
And you reminded me, I'm headed there now to get their latest version. It's not freeware, but it seems to get the job done.

Replicator from http://www.karenware.com/, is free for home use, works with all windows OSs, very easy to install and configure. Other programs in the Karen's Power Tools suite are useful too.
