This occurred when my computer froze during normal operation.
After POST, it tells me DISK READ FAILURE, INSERT BOOT DISK (or the like). When connecting my hard disk (IBM 40gb). It is recognized by the bios, but does not show up as a drive at all (under dos or XP recovery console, which I have to swap CD drives to perform).
With my DVD-RW connected, after the Windows XP installation CD loads up and says "Starting Windows...", It will throw the message "Unknown hard error /ntdll.dll."
When I run BartPe, BSOD pops up with 0x0000007b.
I swapped my DVD-RW drive to an older CDRW I had, and the installation CD loaded fine.
What gives? When my computer froze, both the DVD-RW and 40GB hd were on the same IDE channel.

1 40gb IBM HD
