Hard Drive Activity on Vista

So it's been a while since Vista's been on my machine (6 months or so)... so all the indexing, superfetch is done.

I also have auto defragger turned off and just defragged yesterday.

When it's idle, I don't hear or see any hard drive activity, but when I load up an internet explorer page, my hard drive starts loading in synch with the loading webpage.

I never thought of this, but now I'm getting a little concerned about the longevity of my hard drive.

What could be causing this? With 2 gigs of ram, I'm surely not hitting the page file while just browsing the internet.

So is it wise to disable the pagefile?

Absolutely not. Windows and a lot of programs depend on the pagefile to properly operate. Your hard drive is designed to handle workloads much greater than what Vista puts on them.

Your HD could probably run a constant defrag for 2 years straight without failing. I wouldn't worry about the longevity of your HD. It's not an oil filter or a pair of sneakers.

Probably writing out cached copies of the page.
