hard drive @ 47C?

whoa.. i think this is too hot. It never went over 45 ... and i just finished watching some dvds and now it's at 47C.... too hot right? i should be getting my hard drive cooler in about 3 days.

My HDD gets pretty hot too when I don't give it enough ventilation.

Do you have an extra 5.25" bay? If you do, you should get a 5.25" to 3.5" converter and install the HDD right in front of rear case fan. Leave the face plate in front of that HDD or one below off. My HDD was pretty hot to touch before popping the cover off, now with the cover off its not even warm to touch.

I have it in a 5.25" bay already with the bay cover on. However, It's not getting any air circulation before the IDE cables are blocking the area. I touched my HD and it doesn't feel that hot. My 5400rpm 40 gigger was hotter... This 7200rpm 80gig doesn't feel hot at all.

I wouldn't worry about it.... how often do you hear of HDDs failing because of heat?

i'm not afraid of it failing anytime soon,,, i just want it for long term. I spent 200 bucks on this 80 gig hard drive and i want it to last.

Work around the case and you'll get it. At the worst, you can get a relatively low profile heatsink for old Pentium and strap it to HDD with those nylon ties.

The higher the operating temperature, the greater the odd of failure. I have quite a bit of important stuff on the hard drive and I don't want the drive to die on me. I'll probably buy a new drive in two or three years and auciton this off though, because the performance increase will be so significant. I just don't want it to FAIL on me.
