I had a 20GB Seagate Barracuda ATA/66, 7200rpm. I had a bad sector problem, and since it was under warranty, Seagate replaced it. However, since the Barracuda is not in production anymore, Seagate replaced it with a 20GB ATA/100 but 5400rpm.

Now, is it a fair exchange? Or should I insist on a 7200rpm?

That sounds like a pretty raw deal. Not sure if you'll have any luck but i certainly wouldn't stand a 5400 rpm replacement...give 'em a call and see what they say, if nothing else they'll realize that you're a smart person who knows there's differences! (and don't let them play the card that the one they sent is better because it's ata100....7200 versus 5400 is a much bigger difference than ata66 versus ata100)

should I insist on a 7200rpm? ...hell ya! You would think they would be able to hook you up, definitely call or email.

IBM recently did something similar to me. I just RMA'ed it right back to them. They got it right the second time. :D

I know a dude who sent back a WD 5400rpm drive and they replaced it with a 7200rpm drive. It would have been a great deal except that it was dead as a doornail right out of the box. :D

If the Barracuda is not in production anymore you should next the next model UP, not down.

Call them up and let them know, don't play hell or anything - more than likely its just an honest mistake on their part.

Yes, you need to call them ang get at least the same spec type HD. Make sure to tell them how you paid extra to get the 7200 rpm performance and want the equivalent or better model, not an old refurbished 5400 rpm HD.
