Hard disk question for notebook PC

I am new to notebook computers. I have a presario 1215 that has a 2gb drive that sounds like it's about dead. I want to buy a 6gb drive from a friend. Are these 2.5" drives IDE just like desktop PC's or do I have to buy a special drive for my compaq notebook?

Go on the Compaq forums for a specific answer. It is has been my experience that most 2.5" drives will fit into your notebook. Compaq notebooks have the drives in a caddy/bracket arrangement. I have changed drives in a Sony Vaio and a Compaq laptop with little difficulty. You may run into BIOS issues if the drive you are going to install is much different than the one you are replacing.
