hard disk problems

I can not shut down my WD media centre 160 GB. there is this on/off switch in front which as the name suggests is used to turn on off the disk, only when i push it to turn it off, the blue LED light behind it blinks on and off couple of times, and then remains on.

i followed the sinstructions provided by western digital(safely removing references to USB in the system tray), and then turning it off, but that does not work either

another thing is when i plug the hard disk in, it goes into thie autoplay routine, which ends with a sort of dialog box
"This disk or device contains more than one type of content.

What do you want Windows to do?"

and a whole bunch of icons with text like

the play icon "Play using Windows Media PLayer"
