Hard disk not detected on warm boot but yes in cold

Hi

I am experiencing strange problems with a WD 500GB HD on boot. It is recognized but it seems that the system is not able to get the disk info and then I get a message of the disk failure and "press F1 to resume" message. I discovered that this happens IF the machine is off but with current, I mean the PSU is ON (it has an on/off switch). If I turn the machine off AND the PSU off, and then all on, the disk is recognized correctly and works ok. Any ideas of what maybe going wrong?

System specs:
Asus P6T motherboard
Intel i7 920 CPU
ATI HD4890 1GB video card
SATA1 WD500GB HD
SATA2 WD500GB HD (this is the one that fails, not the same model as the one on SATA1)
SATA3 WD250GB HD
GSkill 3x2GB 1600MHz DDR3
SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeMusic
Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP2

Nothing certain, but it sounds like the motherboard battery could be low, allowing slight corruption of the CMOS.

Before you do anything else, go into the CMOS, make sure the boot order for your drives is set so your boot drive is the first hard drive after your optical drive (and floppy, if you have one).

If everything looks right, turn it off, and allow it to sit until it will again act as a cold boot. Then, when you reboot, go to the CMOS, and see if the machine detects the drive. If not, try setting it to scan for drives.

Before you make final funeral arrangements for your HDD, try replacing your Sata cable.

After about a month and a half of endless computer grief, that is what I isolated my problem being, Still can't understand why a Sata cable that was good for a year and not damaged in any way suddenly went totally squirrely intermittent, some days it worked great and other days the computer would crash, or fail to boot, but I can't deny the night and day results changing the cable produced.
