Hard Disk Config error at Boot up

I'm imaging the hard drive of a Dell Dimension 2400 from a 40 gb to a 320 gb. The customer asked that I use the norton ghost software that he had installed on his machine to do the imaging. After 2 attempts at imaging using norton ghost I'm falling back to my solution of clonezilla. After each time with ghost upon booting to the new drive I get a "hard disk configuration error" and am told to consult the pc's manual. This is a PATA drive and neither the cable select or master setting make a difference (it's the only drive on the cable). Clonezilla takes a while so I left the image go overnight but I'm also looking into other possibilities as I'm not sure if this is a hardware of software issue just yet. Any input is appreciated.
