After a couple of threads on what Graphics card to buy I thought sod it it im not going to bother with SLi anymore or at least at the moment (Had 2 x 512MB 7900GTX's before) and so wanted to stick with single GPU.

Anyway I went with BFG again as I really like their stuff so a BFG 8800GTX OC2 was purchased which is their highly overcloked model so core is at 626Mhz and Memory 1000Mhz (2000Mhz ddr) and all I can say is damm im impressed, even with Crysis gameplay!

I run a 24" widescreen at 1920x1200 and now I can play any other game including COD4 with full everything, and one of my favs Counterstrike Source with top everything with 16xAA and 16xAF and I still get 150+ FPS's :D :D

Crysis runs fine at 1920x1200 with 4xAA with all settings on high but if I put them on very high or turn the AA up it starts to struggle. With the 7900's I had to run 1280x1024 with medium settings!!

With my current spec Q6600 @ 3Ghz, Striker Mobo, 2GB 1066Mhz Crutial Tracers im getting around the 13500 3D marks on 3Dmark 2006, does that seem decent enough? I was getting just over 11000 with the 2 x 7900's.

Cheers all :D

3Dmark06 doesn't have a lot of correlation to gaming performance, you're seeing the results where it really counts- games.

Congratulations on your purchase- you have arguably the best single slot solution available at this time.

Not sure how this is possible with Crysis on 1920x1200 WITH the 4xAA unless you got the engineering sample of the upcoming 9800 chip labeled as the 8800 GTX... :)

Good to know the card can run at those resolutions. Try using some of the autoexec.cfg tweaks in the PCGaming section of the forums, you may find more FPS with them!

Ya but even Tri-SLI GTX/Ultra chokes with 4xAA + Very High at 1920. ;) Also depends on what you consider playable and how far you've advanced in the game I suppose. I found myself having to continuously notch down settings as the game progressed and by the end I was mostly running medium lol.

Ah fair enough, I only played it for 20 mins to see how it went and it was forest scene, it did slow a little when lots of action kicked in but it didn't make it unplayable or anything.

Will go back to a beach scene later and play about see what I can get it to do lol

Actually, the 8800GT is the best single slot video card ever made. But yeah, the 8800GTX is an absolute monster, and is still the best single GPU card made besides the slightly faster overclocked Ultra. I don't believe I've ever heard anyone complain about framerates/performance with one, at least with 1920x1200 or below. And if you guys would quit buying 4 megapixel monster monitors, then trying to use them for gaming, we probably still wouldn't ever have heard any complaints about it.;)

LOL- that was a weird situation.

I went through a ton of work and expense building the 3 way box, and of course I screwed up in my arrogance by not using certified components for the 1200W PSU and case to start with. (I thought I could use a NZXT 1200W which I wanted based on reviews, and I thought my Xaser III had sufficient airflow)

Long story short, after much wailing and gnashing of teeth, some conversations with NVIDIA, a new PSU and case, I found myself with a rig that could get over 200fps at FEAR 19X12 4X16X all maxed, but to what end?

The rig had outgrown the monitor, and you should have seen the look on my wife's face when I told her I was adding the 3007 to the QX6700, 2GB additional RAM, case, and psu I'd already bought. (it wasn't the one I saw when I proposed)

I'm with chizow on this- 19X12 4X16X should bring a GTX to a crawl at Crysis on high- anything else should work fine at that setting though.

Tri SLi doesn't bring a lot to Crysis yet for some reason.

Right checked again last night, I can run Crysis at 1920x1200 with 4xAA and it is playable, played it for about 45 mins and besides a couple of slight slow downs when there was a lot of action going on I thought it was quite playable :)

2 things to remember though - this is with all advanced settings on HIGH NOT VERY HIGH and my GTX is the OC2 model which makes it faster than an stock Ultra.

If I do put the advanced settings on VERY HIGH or turn the AA up anymore than 4 then yes it is not playable and judders about.

Ive been playing some other games as well like COD4, FEAR, Quake 4, Halflife Orange Box, C-Strike Source, and I can pretty much max everything out and still have superb gameplay so to re-itterate my thread, I am very happy with the card lol

Would be interesting to see what 2 of these in SLi would do but im not spending on another one! Oh and what can I use to do a FPS test on Crysis anyone?

Glad you're enjoying the new GTX. Yea you'll get a few quick responses if you post results that seem better than what's been estabilished. No worries.

The GTX is a wonderful creation. I believe the bandwidth and memory make more of a difference than standard benchmarking reveals. Instead of a snapshot, you really have to play through a game with a GTX vs. something else to notice how the bandwidth difference offers smoother gameplay.

I know someone who played Crysis with GTS 640mb SLI vs. GTS 512mb SLI. He said gameplay seemed much smoother overall with the 640mb setup. He said during heavy combat scenes and such the 512's choked where the 640's did not.

You should have posted your question on whether to move from the 7900's about 12 months ago. I'd have said hell yes then too... :)
