I certainly don't say "The 2nd of August, 2011" (2/8/2011) I say "August 2nd, 2011" (8/2/2011). European dates are asinine from a spoken perspective.

Of course it is. First you get the number with the least possibilities (1-12), then the one with more (1-31) and finally the largest one (13 billion BC - Heat death/Big crunch/etc).

I prefer my written dates to be like 2011-08-02.

Go from least specific to most specific. Plus, they sort very, very well.
 
I'm celebrating by turning off all my encryption and passwords off my wifi and things are getting out of hand. Damn them party crashers!
