I think they still can eat every day just not during the period from sunrise to sundown.

Before I went to college I lived in a very large jewish community (probably over 80%) so it'd always be interesting when the fasting holiday came around. A lot of my friends weren't very orthodox and didn't want to follow it but their parents forced em hehe. I think the jewish fasting holiday works the same way where you can't eat until sun down.
 
Man i wish ours was easier....

Muslim ppl, do the sun-up/sun-down thing for forty days... i wonder if you can compare to Lent....

Hah no, its only for a day (or two?) Forty days sounds pretty tough

We have more than one, however alot of people only keep Yom Kippur. It's from Sundown untill sundown the next day. I keep more than just Yom Kippur.
