Happy Lunar New Year!

If you haven't yet, check out the new doodle on google.

It is celebrating "lunar new year 2006." I have heard previous rumors that the Chinese government forbade Google from celebrating the Chinese New Year. What he have is Google celebrating the Lunar New Year with fireworks and a Chinese celebration of conspicuous consumerism. Google is implying that the Chinese New Year is the Lunar New Year and ours is the Solar New Year.

The Chinese government should be thrilled with this outcome. I doubt the US government cares, but I wonder if they should.

Why would Chinese government do that?

Does your brain actually process these "rumors" that you hear before releasing them by creating this worthless thread? Got any links to back them up?

No, no, Chinese government would only ban free speech, not something like celebrating the lunar new year from the Google site.

The only other "ban" that I know recently, is Brokeback Mountain. And the firecracker ban in 100's of cities (which will be lifted for some cities for lunar new year).
