Really, the next step seems to be corporate holidays. National Budweiser Day. This 3 day weekend brought to you by Wal-Mart. I actually would be curious if there was a national holiday via corporate sponsor, especially a beer one, if it would actually lead to increased sales for them (and say discounted beer to help fuel it)?

Yeah you can buy your own ones. I bought about three hundred quids worth last year and they turned out to be display fireworks rather than the regular garden type. Shook a few roof tilesloose in the neighbourhood that night.

In London people were firing off fireworks for 2 days straight. I was thinking of calling the cops on the little shits across the street until I realized it was this "Guy Fawkes" day.

I was honestly thinking to myself "what the hell is going on, it's like the G-D 4th of July".

IIRC, the Gunpowder Plot was about religion (something about a Catholic king installing his daughter into power to ensure Catholic rule). I guess one could argue that Guy Fawkes is a generic symbol for revolution, no matter the kind, but it still feels pretty irrelevant to what's going on here in the U.S. I wonder how many of the people wearing the masks at OWS actually know what the Gunpowder Plot was about or who Guy Fawkes was. :hmm:
