So I finally saw a commercial for "Happy Feet", and for the life of me I can't tell that this movie even has a plot. It's singing dancing penguins done in CG.
...and released simultaneously on SEVEN consoles (with some shitastic reviews) at the same time it was in the theatres.

Is this movie the embodiment of Hollywood pumping out crap and marketing the hell out of it?

I've come to the conclusion that this things are no longer made for the sake of the movie. It's all for the tie ins.

I was browsing through the Gameboy Advanced and DS game racks the other day and I swear 50% of the games out were based off of a movie and/or animated series.

But Happy Feet takes the cake. I thought I was going to vomit when Roche(makers of the drug Tamiflu) put out a commercial using the characters.

It's mostly for kids. Not every movie has to be Casablanca.

The Hollywood marketing machine is an odd thing. Sometimes it runs like a well oiled machine and sometimes it runs like tranquilizer addled hobo looking for his lost bottle of MD 20/20. The end goal of the studio is two wring every possible dollar out of their investment so I can hardly blame them in that regard.

it was a fine movie...very entertaining...

you do not have to think everything is "meh"...

get tired of everyone bashing everything...perhaps it is truly themselves that have no joy in their life, so everything just sucks...

There is a store at the mall called Happy Feet and I thought this thread was talking about that at first.

They did exactly what someone said they were going to do:

One Penguin movie did well (March of the Penguins)
They come up with a great original idea
And
We get more Penguin Movies
