One of the fondest memories I have of my dad was going fishing with him as a kid in Korea. He was an avid angler who went on camping trips all over the peninsula with his friends which involved night fishing, partying and drinking. He also loved to go by himself. In either case, he always tagged me along.

I was nine or so and I threw a tantrum about wanting a pair of high-end rollerblades. He still managed to take me fishing. It was one of the solitary trips where not much was said, just taking in the serenity of the lake. With the lure cast and listening to the lone singing of a bird, my dad broke the silence with my name. He paused for a second, then he quietly told me that he will try to buy me the rollerblades.

Even at that age, I felt a sense of vulnerability from my dad in that moment. I knew he was professing his love to me in his own way. Maybe he couldn't afford them at the time? Who knows.

My dad wasn't a stereotypical emotionally subdued father. But for some reason, that moment and feeling burned in my head as one of the lifelong memory. I'm reminded of it time to time, more so than the times spent enjoying the rollerblades.

Happy father's day, daddy-o.

My daughter called me to wish me happy Father's Day. I had forgotten it was today.

I painted, installed the kitchen light fixture, missed my nap and got beaten by the kid in basketball....sounds like the norm.

Was something special supposed to be going on?

Happy Fathers day

Had a good day yesterday. Woke up and made some banging Eggs in the cast iron. Took the family out for a picnic/cooked on the kettle.

Then we went fishing and I caught my first fish! Landed a 10-12" Large Mouth Bass.

Good day!
