Tuesday, (hopefully) will go from 1.5 mbps down 128k up dsl to 10mbps down 1 mpbs up cable.
Maybe I'll finally be able to watch hulu without insane stuttering.

Nice. I'm on 15/5, no stuttering on Hulu, so I think you should be good :)

I kinda thought about wanting to downgrade my connection. I think it's 15/5 but I barely use any of that :(. I could probably live with 3/1!

Same with me. I have 10/1 now. Keep thinking about Raodrunnere Lite. I don't care if downloads are a bit longer, just want a good ping.

Cool man. I went from 24kbps to 24KBps. Yay for dialup and EDGE iphone hacks. Give me your old 'slow' connection!

Wow, I would kill for 1mbps upload. I get 5mbps download which is decent enough for my use (of course faster is always better) but my upload sucks.

I had the worst DSL for close to 10 years. Inanse high latency, signal that would drop if too much traffic was going through it, an an ISP that basically said suck it up. Oh and the glory of 1mb 256k down. Fast enough to surf, but don't try anything else.

Finally last year we got cable in this area 10mb down and 1mb up. I have to tell you being able to use things like Steam, and having a connection that never goes down, a stable ping, and a connection that is just as fast even shared between 2 houses is fucking heaven.

In America, broadband isn't priced fairly. 100mps cost $99/month in some markets.

I have 1mbs at 24.99 from Comcast.

The person that buys 100mps fiber can resell to 100 people 1mbs for $10/month and make $900 month. I surprised more people don't do that.

Actually that's the exception. Lot of people in the US have FIOS which is like 100mbps up/down. The thought of having a fiber coming straight to the house is pretty cool.

FiOS is 100? I thought it was more around 25 (at least that's what it is for my friends who have it around here). DOCSIS 3.0 cable is 100mbps, but that costs around $100 a month last time I checked.

I'm pretty sure that's against ToS and not that easy to do in practice.

I've actually thought of that, if I had access to such high speed connection. Could resell to the neighborhood. just run a large underground conduit and everyone get's their own link. They would have to be behind a router though as I doubt the ISP would allow to have 100 IPs taken up by one customer.

Could also beam wifi to people and give them the encryption key.

But yeah, probably strictly against the ToS. If it's anything like webhosting, they probably oversell too, so you don't actually get the advertised speed. I would hope that's not how it is though... if you're paying then you better be getting the service you're paying for.

So you can reach your cap faster and they can charge you more.

FIOS is only available in very limited areas (just saw a story that said 3 million across the entire country). Here in northern NY very many places only have the option of dial-up.
