Hopefully we still stand what you stand for.

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

I too worry that 'yoots,' who think 130 years is ancient history and doesn't apply to them, will trash the ideas that made America great and sell our souls to anyone who promises early retirement and a 6000 square foot house in a gated community.

130 years ago, around the time white sheets became popular and our conquest over Native Americans was made complete.
What noble Americans we were! o_O

As for today, immigration has served its purpose. This land is full, I want immigration limited. That way we can focus internally and try to assimilate those already here. Because apparently we're failing at that lately and are taking massive steps to forcing bilingual and multiculturalism, race riots, etc. Things are tense, more fuel and tension to fan the flames only helps Trump and company. Do you secretly want that? I'd rather like to see the country whole again after we spend the next several generations figuring out what that is.

What makes you think we, or the world, needs America to continue 19th century policy?

Immigration is what made America the most powerful nation on the planet. Our national identity came from the rest of the world, supplanting that of the native people. People from nations all over the planet came here and made us who we are, a nation that other nations used to admire and yearn to live in, and now their descendants want to shut down immigration because they think we have enough people that were like their ancestors...

immigrants. How soon they forget...

It isn't that there are enough immigrants who "look like me," but rather, we don't want the US to be like India...severely overcrowded.

Immigration is good. Uncontrolled, unregulated immigration is bad.

We, as a nation, are entitled to pick and choose who we let in...and who we turn away.

Forget what? I was born here. My parents were born here. My grandparents were born here. My father's side might go back to the revolution. At some point, 19th century policy to fill an empty land no longer applies. You think Florida or California should once again double their population in our life times? Their water tables say otherwise.

The statue of liberty is a symbol of America's founding. This is no longer a country being founded. No longer a land of Cowboys and Indians. No longer a wide open land of wild frontiers. There are no settlers anymore. Immigration should NOT be blocked 100%, but it should be limited in scale. Anyone who cares about conservation or the environment should agree. Anyone who wants basic resources to remain somewhat available without scarcity and rising prices should agree. Who in their right mind wants us to exceed 400 million?

I stand for sound reasoning and logical deduction. We need policy to prepare us for sustainability, not infinite growth within a finite space.

Here here! Lets stagnate and go against 200 years of what helped make America great and the number one country in the world! Lets focus on limiting who can come into this country instead of making this country great enough to be able to accommodate new blood, new ideas, and new culture!

Btw, the statue didn't symbolize the founding of this country.

Your ignorance and lack of foresight is astounding sometimes.

In 1865, Edouard de Laboulaye(a French political thinker, U.S. Constitution expert, and abolitionist) proposed that a monument be built as a gift from France to the United States in order to commemorate the perseverance of freedom and democracy in the United States and to honor the work of the late president Abraham Lincoln. Laboulaye hoped that by calling attention to the recent achievements of the United States, the French people would be inspired to create their own democracy in the face of a repressive monarchy. In 1865, France was divided between people who were still committed to the monarchy and people who supported the Enlightenment ideals (the belief that people had natural rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness). It was the hope of many French liberals that democracy would prevail and that freedom and justice for all would be attained.

Btw, the population density per sq mi of the US is 84 versus 386 for India and 650 for the UK. Canada, just for reference is 79.

No problem with a sane immigration policy, just don't close the gates like the shortsighted guy above... :)

You are descended from immigrants to America, correct? Or are you descended from one of the native peoples of this continent? If not, you're the descendant of an immigrant. My family goes back to before the revolution, both here and in Canada, but I'm also descended from immigrants.

The statue of liberty is a symbol of America's founding.

No it isn't... read up on it and edumacate yourself.

I stand for sound reasoning and logical deduction.

You think you do...

The statue doesn't stand for immigration and "Give me your..." was not present at the statue until years after its construction. Although I suppose it's a moot point when even most liberals would rather have the huddled masses stay in whatever place they're coming from, even if they can't admit it.

Six of the seven Americans who won a Nobel prize this year are immigrants (the seventh was Bob Dylan). Pretty compelling evidence that immigration is still making America great.

Sorta... It was a poem written in 1883 to raise money for the construction of the pedestal. So it sorta was "there" since the beginning.

I'm not even going to comment on your asinine attempt at understanding liberals.

Posted while in white sheets and a hood?

Or is it casual day and you're just wearing the brown shirt?

I've always wondered why those who are happy with their gains from gaming the system, feel that keeping others from playing is the only way to protect themselves .

Its actually human nature or maybe more specifically primitive or primate nature, as monkeys have exhibited similar behavior in studies I've seen.
