happens once a week, need a fix or know why

have a friend whos p3700e once a week when it boots up he doesnt get any icons and has to hard reset it.

what would cause this?
 
this forum isn't for troubleshooting? forgive me if i'm wrong, but isn't this the "technical support" forum?
 
What OS are you running? It sounds like its just a Windows issue. I know in NT the icons on Desktop are either blank or just black squares. The icons may appear after a long period of time while PC is running. Best bit is to reinstall your OS if this was the case. Best luck.

Not sure if you tried this yet, but run scandisk and defrag and see it it helps. Also see what programs are running in the background and get rid of the stuff that is not needed.
 
Does it happen at the same day/time every week?? It might sound strange, but he may have a program scheduled to do something at a certain time each week and isn't working properly. When it runs, it temporarily removes all his icons from his desktop.

Either that or someone trying to program a virus did a horrible job (or a good job to your buddy!)
