Hello!

Wondered if anyone could possibly provide some insight into my problem.

I bought the Hanns-g 21.6 monitor and it seemed to have good specs. It claims to have good resolution down to 1680 x 1050 and it does look good at that resolution although the text is pretty small.

When I try to bump up to larger size, the font looks like it was written with a felt tipped pen, some strokes are thin and some are thin - kind of a mix.

I've checked out their website and they say there are no drivers needing to be installed - I'm using a bfg nvidia 6600 oc graphics card, xp pro, opteron 146, gig of ram, etc. My previous monitor was a Samsung and did not seem to have any problems. I've updated the nvidia drivers already and the driver on the monitor disk did not seem to make a difference

Any idea how I might get a larger resolution without the look of irregular font?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

some of the cheaper lcd's (like my benq) don't scale well... what app? can u not just increase the font size instead of changing the resolution?

Thanks! I was referring to the screen as a whole including email, IE, etc.

I did change the view text size to the largest in IE and it seemed to help with most screens - at least it is no longer micro text.

Just seemed that if the monitor can make the smaller text look so good, it doesn't seem like the larger text would be a problem - guess it just amplifies the irregular edges of print.

Appreciate the responses!

The problem is that the pixels are fixed. If you don't run the monitor at the maximum resolution then it has to "guess" at the pixels that the computer is trying to display. If things are too small, then your best bet is to increase font size or increase DPI.

Have you enabled "smooth fonts"?

How a low a resolution are you dropping to? The panel is designed to run at its native 1680x1050 and anything else (other than an even fraction) won't appear aligned correctly with the pixels, hence some blurring.

Why not stick to 1680x1050? The default text size isn't that difficult to read (thanks to my optician!).

Thanks, most things look a little better now.

I reset the resolution to the 1680 x 1050 (previously tried every one up to 800 x 600 - one notch at a time) and then increased the dpi to 150% of normal or 144 dpi.

The letters themselves looked stressed for most of those settings but the letters themselves were at about the 1/8" size.

Now at the 150%, my email lettering is about a 1/4" tall and the individual letters themselves are consistent in color and texture - I definitely can live with that!!

Appreciate all the responses and suggestions.
