Hanns·G HG-281DPB , Any news or reviews on this.

A cheaper panel that is used on the majority of 22" & smaller displays.

Strengths: generally good response times.

Weaknesses: everything else.
Poor color accuracy, especially when blacks/darker shades get involved.
Very poor vertical viewing angles, allowing shifting distortion of colors up & down.
Exaggerated dynamic contrast ratios (this can be found on good panels too though, but is present on nearly all TNs).

Basically put, it's a budget panel for people who won't/can't spend the $$$ for a good LCD. (Sorry for being harsh, but that's largely true.)

No, thats what i wanted to hear. Money is not an issue here and will spend big bucks for th perfect monitor. check out my thread in this forums regarding 28-32 inch displays.

Is that a TV or a computer monitor? A TN in that size would look horrible at close range due to the viewing angles.

NewEgg ratings can be deceiving. Oftentimes, the item in a particular category with the most reviews is going to be a low end/mainstream item that's decent value. Many of us have more discriminating tastes, and prefer to pay a bit more for higher quality gear.

Case in point, if you take a look at the best selling PSUs category over at NewEgg, you'll see brands like Apevia and Rosewill up near the top. Many of us wouldn't touch those with a six-foot pole.

No one?

No one....except me. I bought one for work ($603 shipped fron www.mwave.com) and have been using it for 2 weeks. Its is a decent display, and at first I didn't think it was a TN panel, as the viewing angles are better than I would expect from a TN display. However it is TN, and there is a "hint" of color change at the edges of the screen, but its really not bad at all. Viewing angles are better than I expected from a TN panel. Overall, the display looks to be well made, with a very sturdy base and a high quality feel. The panel is very bright, and I had to turn the brightness down a little. I tested color gradients on it, and they looked good, with little or no banding. It's HUGE.

I think the biggest complaint that people might have is the large pixel size. The image looks a little "grainy" due to the large pixel size. For work, this is great, as my eyes don't have to strain hard (I don't have good eyes). I have not yet used it for games. I've been meaning to take it home and compare it side by side to my 24" Soyo. From what I can tell, my Soyo has better color, viewing angles, and clarity.

Overall, I would say that if you are happy with the 22" TN displays, such as the Acer 22" (which I also have) then you'll be happy with the 28" Hanns-G. Overall, I think my Soyo was a better deal at $299.

Mine has no dead pixels. If you want 1080p resolution without the pixels being too small, then its a great buy.

Edit: One thing about this monitor is that it is a great computer for work. I have no trouble seeing everyhting on the screen, but if it were any bigger, it seems like I would start to have to move my head around the screen. I've been noticiably more productive since I started using this monitor.

I would agree. I would say that if you do not like the current crop of 22" monitors, then you probably won't like this one. However for a TN display, it is very good. The viewing angle issue with TN displays is not really a factor for this display, which is surprising for how big it is. It does have 8 bit color and gradients look good, but the contrast ratio is not spectacular. I would give the contrast a slight edge over my first generation Acer 22" LCD, though. Think of this display as being sort of like one of the nicer 22" TN panels (like a Viewsonic VG2230wm) but larger.

cheper 24" monitors are now TN. there is a 28" viewsonic i think, and its likely it uses the same panel or a similar one, so maybe ryou can read reviews of that one.
