Hangs during bootup prior to memtest

I'm having a problem I can't figure out on bootup of my computer:
Asus A7N8X-deluxe Rev 2.0 using bios 1.07
Barton 2500+ OC'd to XP3000+
Radeon 9800 Pro
1gb pc 2700 mem
WD 160GB/Maxto 60Gb
*new 520wt Super Flower PSU
Basically, as soon as I turn it on, it hangs for 30secs-1min before the typical memory test, then tests the memory fine, detects my drives, and continues to boot into winXP pro just fine. It's never hung before the memory test before and I immediately thought it must be a bad stick of RAM. I checked what windows was reporting and it's reporting fine, so I took all the sticks out and put each one in individually and got the same results each time, including a stick I borrowed that was working fine on the computer it came from, but the problem is still there.
I've also recently replaced the power supply thinking maybe the system wasn't getting enough juice, but it should have more than enough now...didn't seem to change the problem at all.
My question is basically, what can it be hanging up on that early in the boot sequence if it's not memory related, and how do I straighten this out? Other than this one problem, the computer has been running flawless.

Have you tried any other sticks of ram in the computer to see if its because of the ram or the mobo?

Also try moving the ram to a different slot, i had a similar problem and that solved it.

I've tried every possible RAM configuration I could think of using, slot 1 slot 2 slot 3 with any of the 3 sticks of RAM and none of these changed the issue the slightest. It doesn't seem to be RAM related. I'm thinking more likely a BIOS related problem or something else that I'm not thinking of altogether at this point...

Go into bios.....Advanced/Advanced Bios Fearures/(check to see if Quick Power On Self Test is ENABLED)
i know that that will stall the boot. If its is enabled you could try to clear cmos if you know how to reconfigure your bios settings, although im pretty sure the a7n8x will do it for you.

Thanks for the idea! I'm pretty sure I've checked for the self test already, but I'll definately take another look when I get home and try your suggestions and see how that affects the posting.

I did also notice last night it's kind of sporadic now...some times it boots like it should, some times, it hangs before the mem test....maybe it'll help with the diagnosis.

Thanks Grimfandango, I restored the BIOS defaults and whatever caused it is now fixed. 🙂
I haven't got my full OC back yet, even with it being in a much cooler case, but with the memory problem fixed, I'm not so worried because I'm sure I just don't have things setup the same way again yet.

Should disabling quick POST cause it to take up to a minute to get to the memory read/write? Seems like long time, maybe something else was causing the delay?

I was kind of thinking the same thing, hence the complete restore to defaults. I guess I should have specifically checked it to see if that was the cause. It seemed to start when I first got my new 21" monitor, but I can't see how the monitor could have caused this either.

Thanks, it's already been fixed by restoring all the default settings, we were just trying to weed through the possible causes. Wasn't so sure if the quick self-test would have been to blame for this particular issue since it was hanging before the memtest altogether.
