Hanging on boot up

I have a amd athlon 2.4 ghz processor running on a ASUS A7V8X mobo, the bios cpu speed is set to 1500 mhz, cpu frequency is at multiple 15, and the cpu external frequency is at 100/133 mhz. If I try and set the CPU frequency to 2000 mhz the system hangs during boot up and I have to go into safe mode to reset back to 1500 mhz. I am not experienced at bios settings etc and would be very grateful if somebody could confirm what CPU speed my processor should be set to and if it is 2000 mhz why it hangs on boot up.

Many thanks

Check the RAM. Guy I work with built an Athlon XP system that wouldn't run reliably (if at all) on a 133FSB. Ended up being the Kingston RAM. Swapped in a stick of Crucial and it was fine.
