They couldn't see him though. The article I read said they had a long stick and were poking it in the mud to find him but couldn't. It was such a slippery slimy mess that I doubt any of the adults could have done much to save him. I dunno, I guess it would have been more courageous to jump in after him, but I wouldn't call them spineless arseholes.

I wonder how many adults there were. If there were more then a couple, I figure they coulda just started from on end and searched until the other. He woulda been struggling so it couldn't be that hard.

All I could think of is about the Parents here....
Imagining them like Bevis and Butthead.... "Huh Huh...poke him with that stick....Huh Huh..." "Yeah, Cool...hee hee"
IDIOTS!!

IDIOTS!!

They didn't poke the kid with a stick, they poked the watery goo in the pool with a stick trying to find the kid while they waited for paramedics.

The responsible parties are not the onlookers but the parents/grandparents/guardians who let 4, 5, and 6 year old kids out to explore on their own, without supervision, dumb.

It's hard to say w/o seeing the pool what the onlookers could have done that would have definitely been more helpful.

I recall this same kind of accident happening last year, slimy pool and all.

what a great kid...

the adults should have jumped in to search for him asap..instead of waiting for paramedics.

i agree.. what the hell was up with that.. they poked instead. Those adults should be ashamed for not jumping in.. Oh no! We are going to get dirty.

exactly...a friggin heroic little 6 year old had more balls than the lot of 'em put together!!!

As somebody called 911, adults hurried to the pool area, but the water was so filthy, so filled with debris, that they couldn't see Donnie. Another maintenance man, Andre Mitchell, said he poked the water with a long aluminum pole used to clean pools but turned up nothing.
It's what...five feet deep? Your average adult is not less than five feet tall. They're usually a foot and a half taller than that. The intelligence of some people honestly scares me.

One also has to ask what a six and four-year old were doing unsupervised in the first place...
Let me get this straight: you said that the average adult is 5', but that many are 6' 6"? I'm 6' 9" and I can tell you that most people are NOT within 3 inches of me.

I get your point, but please think before you post.

Worst adults EVER. I just can't believe that no one went in after him, and they waited for the paramedics.
Just amazing, what a bunch of idiots. There is a kid in there and all they can do is poke for him with the pole??? 😕

Not trying to defend the idiots around the pool but thats diffusion of responsibility for you. That said who cares wtf the pool looked like. The kid is already in there, the worst that could happen is that you get a cut, it gets infected, and you *almost* die but at the same time you have saved a childs life. For fsck sake they said it was a semi solid sludgem, ooooh wow, gonna die in the....not. Hope the kid makes it.
