handspring visor deluxe / digitizer woes?

so my 2 year old visor deluxe took its first fall. it slide through some cables that slowed the 3' descent but it got clucked on the side i think. not that terrible a fall but i am having issues..

no apparent damage to the screen - it is intact and without cracks. however, on first use post-fall i go to click text in the task applet and it checks/unchecks the item. hmmm. further exploration turns up every click is far left on the screen (or so it seems)..

so i play with the digitizer recalibration without luck. the visor will not register anything as within the X. i do the soft reset, the hard reset, the hard reset via battery removal. same situation. now i am stuck in the initial digitizer calibration..

i am thinking that the digitizer has been fudged, but it is still registering clicks. handspring wants $99 for a replacement (ack), but there is the digitizer replacement option at www.gethightech.com that i have seen.

gethightech.com has a no return policy on opened items, and i am wondering if i should move forward on this. i would rather repair than toss/replace. i don't know the symptoms for a botched digitizer for certain and am wondering if someone(s) might shed some light? anyone else have similar symptoms? other paths i might take?

thx

I use to own a Handspring Visor for over a year before I dropped it. The screen cracked and you should consider yourself lucky. Do yourself a favor and UPGRADE to either a Palm 5X or Palm M505 you will be so much better....
