Handsome / easy to use linux distro for netbook (11.6")?

Have an acer aspire one that I rarely use since I got a macbook air. Figured I'd make a simple living room couch surfer out of it and am looking for an elegant, "pretty," and easy to use linux distro (read: wife friendly). I don't consider myself a power user so don't care much about customizing nor do I get a kick out of tracking down esoteric drivers - quick, easy to install, pretty, and usable out of the box is what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

Ubuntu is a polished desktop-oriented distro, and its Unity interface is particularly well-suited for netbooks, although a bit resource-heavy.

Chrome OS?

Edit: Apparently you'll have to build it from source.

I say go with Mint.

Tried linux mint and on boot of the live cd my touchpad didn't work. I'm sure there's a work around out there but reminds me very much of my experience back in the stone ages - something as common as a synaptic touchpad isn't supported out of the box so here I go spending the next 3 hours finding a fix!

Aborted the install and now am downloading Ubuntu - wish me luck!
