Hands on comparison of Ghost Recon and Operation Flashpoint

I purchased Ghost recon last week. I have already finished the game. Not that it didn't take alot of time. I have been playing OFP since the Europe release. As far as game play goes I would have to say hands down I enjoyed the single player campagn missions in OFP much more. They were much more technical and hard to beat. The AI in OFP was alot harder to beat, they would change tactics and suprise you much more than ghost recon. In ghost recon the AI is ok but fairly predictable. The shooting is much more realistic in OFP, it is much easier to miss and you have to be careful when and where you shoot or you will be killed. Ghost recon plays much more like rainbow six. (which is not bad) To me it's more like a mix of an arcade game and sim. OFP has a much steeper learning curve though. The multiplayer in ghost recon is more fun than OFP. I love the recon mode where your team tries to get to an extraction point anyone dies and your out of it. OFP multiplayer doesn't work that well for me and there werent enough missions.

Auric could you explain the new stuff?cause i'm itchy to update the patch but scared it might mess up the game like the last patch

no I haven't tried it yet been working on beating ghost recon I did download it though I'll have to go and check it out.

If you have the EU release (1.00) then Upgrade 2 to match the US release (1.20) needed to be done on a fresh installation with no modifications whatsoever. But Upgrade 3 will happily upgrade 1.20 even if you have added other maps and whatnot. Tip: get the Check OFP utility to confirm it's A-Ok.

The code update is again available seperate from the add-ons but why deny yourself?

I have to say that 1.00 was very beta and 1.20 should have been the initial release everywhere. 1.30 is just cake, baby. Ghost Recon looks kewl too and will prolly just get better with a patch or two too
