We love both restaurants, however; Ran Getsu sticks with the tried and true cuisine. It's a great place too, and we always stop by it...their $39.90 early bird boat for two is an excellent choice esp. when both in the party don't like sushi (we both like it). A nice portion of steak, lobster, chicken and shrimp kebobs
's (teppannyaki?), a half dozen rolls, some sashimi, pineapple, salmon steaks and gyoza plus soup or salad. Don't expect a spoon with your soup though unless you ask
. Ran Getsu is great...but:
Hanamizuki's will cook just about any Japanese dish...even some that require a 7 day lead time. All Japanese ran and operated.
My wife had something called 'Pot Rice' in english...I don't know the translation and she is asleep. Basically it takes 40mins to make it if authentic so most restaurants avoid it because customers here will complain...those that do offer it, premake it and freeze it so the rice is not so good.
Plus it's reasonable. I had a few beers, we each had an appetizer and our meals...total was under $70 with 20% tip.
We stay at the La Quinta right next door due to it being pet friendly. Both restaurants are easy walking distance...less than 5 mins. It's a decent hotel...free breakfast with waffle stations and very cheap...our week stay was less than $600 (Disney 'All-Star' would have been cheaper, but not pet friendly and would not offer non-disney things you can do just by walking).
People in Japan talk about both Hanamizuki and Ran Getsu....they even have packages that include at least Ran Getsu with the tour. The Halloween Horror night package is a pretty good deal overseas, it's about $70 USD and includes the halloween horror nights pass, a bento box at Ran Getsu for dinner (which looks pretty good, we witnessed the tour last year), bus travel to the event and dinner, the hotel room....it's an add-on to other tours.
I really wanted to do Halloween Horror nights this year again on VIP(RIP)...but it's expensive for just 4 hours and my wife told me it's too scary for her...she only liked the bill and ted show.
