Staples has the 500GB Hammer external USB drive for $149.99 after $50 rebate. Combine with a $30 off $150 and you have a smokin deal on an external drive...or a good deal if you just wanna take the 500GB drive outta it.

Great for a drive to do backups to... I use a pair of external drives to store an overnight backup from the office, one comes home while the other swaps out for the next backup. This will be a third to allow for a more secure backup system.

The $30 off $150 coupon is one time use type that they mail to ya about every 3 or 4 weeks. Now I see this all over other sites, didn't see it here when I posted.

That's a good price/gig on a drive that big. The only drawback is warranties are often short on external drives. Sure to be a hot deal for some.

if anyone gets one of these 500gb drives, please open it up and let us know who makes the drive. also try entering the serial of the drive on the seagate/maxtor/wd/hitachi warranty check page to see how long it is. 🙂

Deal is still good. I got a Western Digital 500GB SATA drive, 5 year warranty on the drive according to WD's website based on my serial number
