Hamlet modern translation

Leros

Lifer
We are reading Hamlet in school and it isnt too bad. But it sure would be nice to have a modern english translation. Rather than pay $10 for it, does anybody know of an online site with a free translation?

Thanks

I guess I am looking for a direct translation. My friend has a great book with a side by side translation. Very easy to read, but $12.95

I have a spark notes version with side by side translation, it was 5$. As for everyone who says "it's easy to read" go back and read the entire thing, it's not easy.

If you went to a craptacular school and your English ability is well below average, yeah, it'll be difficult. Otherwise it's a friggin' breeze. Hell, even un-translated Middle English from the 1200's isn't that difficult.

Its not difficult. I would just rather spend 15 minutes reading that 30 minutes. Thats all. Pure laziness, so shoot me.

Never said it was difficult, It's just not as easy as reading current day english, but if you know what a bare bodkin is off the top of your head, the more power to you.

Just read it outloud to yourself and it all makes sense. Sure it isn't going to be as easy as ESPN.com, but, come on, it's a classic!

bah. don't watch the movies. none of them really give enough play to Hamlet's obvious insanity.

You assume he actually was insane. That would be questionable.

Wow, looks like we have alot of Harvard lit majors here with sticks up their butts. At least he has an interest in Shakespeare and wants to comprehend what is happening. Just buy the $12 dollar book, anything else will be hard to follow/match with your text. Be sure to at least try to read the original text though, once you know what is happeing.
