Hamachi Thread

This is an awesome program...

In laymans terms, Hamachi, if you don't know, lets you create a LAN over the internet. It works pretty well. My friend and I tried iTunes over it today and it works, you can see the other person on the shared list. This could be perfect for people who have multiple computers in different locations. Anyway, you all should try this.

It's actually really neat.

The server only has access to keys to initiate tunnels, but to actually authenticate in the tunnel you need a key that the servers never have access to😀

Plus it supports NAT-T....

Now to see if I can route all traffic through it for mobile users:evil: Hopefully setting the default gateway will do the trick

Considering it's a company that nobody's heard of with a closed source application written in a foreign country (for me, anyhow) encouraging users to do P2P stuff I'd be very paranoid using it. Has anybody actually watched it's network activity after the initial 'direct connection' is made to see if it phones home? What about the volume of data that is sent to the central servers during that initial handshaking (perhaps enough to contain a log of previous activity)?

Steve Gibson @ GRC likes it. Audio as well as text & pdf versions of his Security Cast in which he discusses his research on Hamachi can be found HERE. I subscribe to the GRC Security Podcast.

I just had a little Hamachi last night with a side order of COD2.

Daddy likes 🙂

Hamachi is awesome except for how often the backend goes down. I'd upgrade to a premium account in a heartbeat if they could manage to keep the thing up straight for more than a month (instead of the near daily downtime)
