Hamachi - Need Help

Hello all, I've come here because I need help to get Hamachi working for me and a friend, as we wish to play network games together (specifically titan quest atm). I have vista 64bit and he has xp 32 bit. We have tried many different versions of Hamachi, which is a virtual private networking client, from newest to oldest, and used the guide here Guide to no avail. We can chat to each other but cannot ping each other or see each other in games.

I have tried disabling windows firewall completely, rebooting, etc. Never had a good ping either which way.

If someone with some networking knowledge or hamachi knowledge can help out, we'd both be gracious. We each spent 2 hours and got nowhere with this tonight.
 
Is someone setting up the network then the other joining it? You can't just connect to a Hamachi IP, someone has to set up a network with a name (eg. TidusZ Game), then your friend must join the network TidusZ Game.
