I think we're having a roast this easter instead of ham. Sister's boyfriend doesn't eat pork. it's all good to me..as long as everyone is stuffed.

Never liked a holiday ham. Not a fan.

Us Greeks on Easter do lamb. Some do a whole lamb, others do what we call Souvla, which is big chunks of lamb roasted over a spit and charcoal. It's the best.

By holiday ham, do you just mean "ham on a holiday" or are you thinking of a specific preparation method?

The specific preparation method most used on holidays, like the OP posted.

I love deli ham, but not holiday ham.

Oh, like the sweet glazed ham? Yeah, that's not for me either. I didn't look at the pineapples at first.
I've had the spiral sliced ham that was smoked, and with a nice spicy rub on it, that was pretty solid.
I didn't realize that souvla was a thing (having looked it up I see it's somewhat similar to souvlaki). I'd eat that.

this. I feel that there is no reason for other hams to exist. They are just nasty, quite frankly.

Yeah it's basically like a large souvlaki, but lamb instead of pork, and with some pieces on the bone. Souvlaki may also have more marinade and seasoning on it. Souvla is dead simple - salt, pepper & oregano. Nothing else. Although I like to marinade some of the souvla with red wine for a couple hours sometimes. Maybe a quarter of the pieces.

But essentially it's just about the flavor of nicely grilled lamb pieces so good quality lamb is of the utmost importance. It's very delicious. It's also a man thing. Men are in charge of the souvla, women do everything else. Although some greek men do contribute to other parts of the feast. I usually make a couple of apps as well.

Can't wait for Sunday to feast!

Country ham is so good. No need for that sweet, watery, salty, rubbery crap.

Grilled lamb is also good.
