i think it's some kind of oak tree, leaves are long/thin, sorry for the crappy pics

Looks like a Lindin but hard to tell for sure. Lindins have a browner, softer trunk though but they do get wrinkled with age. Leaves are normally big by the end of summer.

i should have done that but there were a bunch of people there and i didn't want to look like an idiot pulling leaves off the tree

Hard to tell. Need a closeup of a leaf and the bark.

Looks like a willow oak or Laurel oak to me. If it's in the south, chances are that's what it is.
If it was a live oak the branches would be more robust and lower.

And for someone with a Tiger Paw (assuming you went to Clemson) you would know that the Clemson extension would have pegged this for you. :p

this is true, i gotta get them to do some soil samples also. it's a willow oak from google images, THANKS! :awe:
