Halo3 to be released at the same time as PS3

For months, the Web was rife with rumors that Microsoft would ship the sequel to Halo 2 for the Xbox 360 simultaneously with the launch of the PlayStation 3. Now, that has been confirmed--by none other than Bill Gates himself.

In next week's issue of Time Magazine--which features Gates holding the Xbox 360 on the cover--Gates mentioned plans for the release of the much-anticipated follow-up to the best-selling console shooter. In a parenthetical sidebar in the article, Time says the following:

"Note to the hard-core faithful: the next version of Halo will not, repeat not, be ready in time for the launch of Xbox 360. It will be part of the all-important second wave next spring. 'It's perfect,' Gates says, radiant with bloodlust. 'The day Sony launches [the new PlayStation], and they walk right into Halo 3.'"

While Microsoft reps were not available for comment as of press time, Gates' comments appear to confirm the theory that Microsoft will release Halo 3 either simultaneously or near the release of Sony's next-gen console. It also marks further official confirmation that a third Halo is indeed in the works, and will be released for the Xbox 360.

Although such statements might be interpreted as grandstanding, such a maneuver definitely would have an impact. Halo 2 sold over 6.5 million copies to date, and is credited with doubling the subscriber base of Xbox Live from around 750,000 to over 1.5 million. It is also credited by industry-watchers as one of the main reasons for boosting sales of the original Xbox last holiday season.

It's not like they can release PS3 whenever the want to. It's a lot easier to tinker with the release date of the a game than a next gen console.

I hope it has a better ending than Halo 2. By the time i was done with Halo 2, i was like "WTF". I wanted more from the game, it "felt" short. I felt empty after playing it. I wanted more.

Any whooo, like i said, i hope it brings some closure to the Halo universe. But until that time, i'll play some multiplayer halo/halo2

I wonder how the Xbox360 will affect Japan and global sales?

Glad MS is pushing Sony to do stuff as we all know if they weren't Sony would be getting slack.

I don't think they want 'closure' to the Halo universe. I imagine they're going to milk Halo for a loooooong time.

Depends on the game line-up. Japan gamers have much different tastes than American gamers. MS has brought aboard a buttload of Japanese developers for the 360 including the one of the Final Fantasy originators but that doesn't mean much if they can't get stuff that is appealing to the Japanese.

I don't understand how the PS2 still has such a huge lead over the Xbox. The graphics on the PS2 are totally horrible by today's standards.

Yeah, you're probably right, but, i think that will be its downfall and will eventually turn people away from the franchise.

I guess if the concept can be kept fresh, and be innovative at the same time with later releases, then i guess the sky is the limit with it. I just don't want to shell out xx amount of money to get a new console with a half assed though out game of "halo Nth"

GRAPHICS ARNT EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it also has a FAR superior game line up, i can count on 1 hand the # of xbox games that i really want to play hell i can name more GC games worth plaything then xbox games

A lot of good games are PS2 only. I'm talking games that have a big fan base like GTA, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid.

Hype (the Emotion Engine will give you orgams!) and it was to the market first with a ton of games by the time the Xbox came around.

It is about THE GAMES. Some people probably don't find the Xbox games fun to play so thus don't buy it.

Xbox has nearly no presence in Japan and that has to be hurting MS in overall sales. I have read and seen figures that they barely sell 1000 units in a week and some week it drops to about 500 units for the whole of JAPAN!

the market was flooded with ps2's already by the time xbox came around. less reason to buy a second system.

I'd say he is justified after the performance of Halo2

No, he's just fairly confident, based off the sales boost the Xbox recieved when Halo and Halo 2 were released that Halo 3 will be a similar catalyst.
He may think it sucks. But he's pretty sure GAMERS will want it, and want an XBox 360.

Halo 1 was godly
Halo 2 was not as godly as Halo 1 but still amazing in every aspect, it is Godly in its online play tho
Halo 3 - assumeing it brings closure to the story IMO will be just as godly, + it will have update graphics and such and look even better

Japan is a shrinking market, and isnt even in the top three largest markets anymore. Let alone #1. MS cares about winning the US and European markets. You dont need Japan to be successful. Would it help? Yes. Is it manditory? No.

People swore up and down Xbox would be a failure without Japan. Not only is it not a failure, it turned a profit sooner than expected.

I know of at least 3 friends who had XBOX. One bought it just to play Halo with the rest of those clowns. That was a fad that lasted about a few months. Now none of them even look at the thing as there aren't any games worth playing.

I would agree to an extent, XBox has been lagging in the games worth playing category.
