I just bought Halo and when I try to play the game after installing (without any errors) this is the error that it gives me:

A problem occured initializing Direct3D. Hardware acceleration maybe disabled, please run DXDIAG.

I ran DXDIAG and no problems were found. All my other games work fine and I do have hardware acceleration enabled.

These are my specs:

P4 2.8 Ghz HT
256 PC3200 RAM
Radeon 9800 non-pro vid card (flashed to pro)
Soundblaster 5.1 Sound Card
Dell Motherboard with intel chipset

What could be the problem?

I reinstalled DirectX 9.0 and it still didn't work.

THANKS

under the directx tab you need to have it say disabled, when in fact it really means enabled or elese you will be playing in software mode.

Actually the issue comes from any refresh fixing utility, like reforce - Similar to battlefield1942's problem.

Just enter this command "-vidmode 1024,768,100" (or whatever resolution/refresh rate you wish to use)

Yep, refresh rate fies that don't allow low refresh rates cause it not to load. I had to set my 800x600 refresh to 60hz.
