Alright, so I just saw Halo for the first time last night. Honestly...the gameplay looks good, but people were raving about the graphics, I really wasn't impressed. It is very smooth and has good reflective surfaces and whatnot, but the textures are very bland and low res, and I noticed a distinct lack of anti aliasing. Granted this is a first-gen game...but honestly it looked like a higher frame rate N64 game.

You've gotta remember that Halo is one or two years old now. It's also got limited hardware to run on.

It's over 2 years old...and I think you are exaggerating. N64? Have you SEEN Goldeneye? That game had a library of about 6 or 7 textures!!!!!!! It was one of the most bland FPS games I've ever seen.

Sure doesn't look bland on my 50" HDTV. :)

BTW welcome to 2001. ;)

edit: if by bland you mean a muted color pallete, then yes. This isn't a nintendo made game...the colors are more realistic.

I've never thought the graphics on Halo were that outstanding. Some of the graphics are impressive, but what is most impressive is the multiplayer.

Yes I'm exaggerating on the N64 thing, but still, I've seen better looking EARLY games on xbox and gamecube.

Like what? DOA3 looks good and its an early game, but its a different type of game. Hard to compare really...Halo renders huge outdoor environments.

There's definitely games out now that kick Halo's ass in that department, but it doesn't make Halo look BAD IMO.

The game looked bland, and its MP play was overrated. Or maybe it was just the typical enthusiasm from all the n00b console players discovering the joy of FPS/MP play for the first time. I was a UT/Tac Ops man at the time. :D

I don't have a console so I couldn't wait for Halo to come out on PC.
I was disappointed in both graphics and gameplay.

Halo was/is a console game first and foremost (or it became one after MS bought Bungie that is). The MP on Halo is still great and is it's best feature, the single player story looked a little rushed ot me. It's worth every penny I paid for it (I bought the XBox version, not the PC version).

dont forget, games always look best with AA / AS on.. so unless you have a high-end radeon or geforce, you're not going to get max eye candy :)

halo was originally developed for PC until MS bought out bungie. i didnt think the story was bad, but multiplayer on PC is absolutely fantastic. granted halo is sometimes choppy on my computer, but i love gunning on a jeep with a driver and guy in the seat. best part of the game right there :) not as fast-paced as UT, but still good.

lol and what did tribes 2 do for the pc? You may like it, but as far as drawing in players I don't it comes in number to quake, counterstrike, etc. Maybe I'm just biased because it sucks to me ;)

In all fairness I enjoy halo on the console as a multiplayer game but the pc verson on the internet sucks incredibly hard too ;)
