Now our source is really sticking her/his/its neck out.

As we told you earlier, our inside woman/man/thing got hold of some pretty exciting news.

News that Bungie was already hard at work developing what will be Halo 4.

Now we?re told that this will be announced officially at E3.

The prior news was probably like a weatherman predicting a hurricane ?sometime somewhere.? This starts the ticking clock for what would end up being a pretty big deal.

Halo 4. E3.

Stand by.

I don't know how I feel about this, whether its true or not. I don't think I would get hyped up for it anyways seeing that Halo 3 was a pretty dull offering compared to Halo 2.

But who knows this could all be BS.

The only problem is that it will only be playable on the new 360 model that comes with the internal blu-ray drive, priced at $299.

I think they wanted to develop game for different platforms (ie. Halo DS).

Can they even do that? I thought MS owned the Halo franchise.

*edit*
Although I suppose MS doesn't have a handheld console and would much rather support Nintendo than Sony..

Wasn't Halo a trilogy? I thought the rest of Halo games would only be spinoffs like that RTS that's coming out which is made by Ensemble Studios I think.

Halo 3 was just the end of that particular story arc. They never said it would be the last in the series.

I just hope that Halo 4 is more like Halo 1...but I doubt it :(

I think you're right that they'd put out games on the DS if they wanted to do handheld development, but the Halo DS video was a hoax. It was a modified 007 game IIRC.

Contact Harvest would be great story line to base another Halo game on. A prequel featuring first contact with the Covenant, plus the civil war action, and playing as sgt. Johnson instead of an armored spartan or elite, would be an enjoyable departure. Since we were getting our collective asses handed to us, it could have more of an empire strikes back feel than any of the other 3. No Death Stars/Halos being destroyed or final boss battle for you to win, just fighting your ass off to survive against overwhelming odds without that sort of big payoff for it.

I'm also a bit surprised to hear Bungie mentioned in the rumor, I was expecting Wingnut Interactive to be the game dev involved.

I just want Bungie to make another Marathon game and for every platform out there, Bungie used to be a "Blizzard"-like developer to me but Halo is such a mediocre game that I just want to see it die (as a FPS at least). I know many people love it but the game has poor gameplay mechanics (not innovative at all and some of then are even very dull), the story is a poor rehash of the Marathon story and the game is only fun in multiplayer but not even the best multiplayer game around. I don't know how the game got so much praise.

I don't know a single person who played Marathon back in it's day that doesn't think Halo was a step-down for Bungie and I know very little PC gamers who actually think Halo holds a candle to most PC shooters out there.

Er... elaborate on the poor gameplay mechanics. I mean, it may not live up to the hype, but it's a well above average game, not the below average game you're making it out to be. I guess if you only ever play Bioshock and Call of Duty 4, the Halo series would seem like a turd...

It seems soon. I'd get it not because it's Halo, but because it would likely have a serviceable 4-player co-op campaign like #3.

I guess poor was a harsh word, the game is fun to play, it's just not worth the praise it gets, single-player IS below average (the story is good but like I said, a Marathon rehash that's not even as good), multiplayer is very nice I have to say, really funny to play (reminds me a bit of Marathon) but again, not worth the praise it's gotten, it's a good game, just not a great game.

I just don't understand why people get so worked up about Halo, there are already tons of shooters out there that are much more fun to play both in single and multiplayer even on consoles. The franchise should just die and Bungie should focus on doing something different like a Marathon sequel or a new franchise altogether or maybe even something outside of shooters.

Of course that's never going to happen because the Halo brand is bigger than Jesus now.

Actually, I think your wishes are pretty close to reality. Halo 4 could quite possibly be a Marathon remake.

So it's the only gaming experience you've ever had?

marathon is so dated now, that game sucks complete ass. it cannot stand the test of time. go play the xbla version, it's just a bad game now.

and i don't just mean graphically or anything. its just not fun. there are tons of old NES and SNES games that I will still play today, but marathon, not so much.

Well, we've already got Halo Wars and it was announced last year that Peter Jackson was working on a Halo game...so, this could very well be the Peter Jackson game.

I'm still waiting for Mister Chief Kart Racing and Lego Halo.

As long as the single player story line is great then I am all for it. I am one of the few that doesn't play Halo for MP. I really love a great Sci-Fi FPS game story line though. Halo's story is fantastic. Although, I must say that I think they did a better job with the story in Halo 2. 3's story was still good, but I enjoyed 2's more.

Seriously?

I imagine you're comparing it to other sci-fi shooters?

There was rumors floating about making a movie about the Halo right after or about the same time Halo 3 came out. That may of had been a good movie if done right.

I don't think Halo has the best storyline...

At least Halo 1 was a bit intriguing with it's mystery. Halo 2 ruined that for me. I still think Halo 2 was the worst in the series as far as story goes.
