Halo 3 Xbox 360 console question

When the limited edition Halo 3 consoles came out were all of them falcon chips ?

As I recall, not all were .. but some were. I bought my xbox right around that time, but I didn't get the Halo one... I got a holiday bundle of the xbox Pro and I got a Falcon. At the time there were a lot of threads reporting Falcon sitings and I seem to recall reading some people reporting that their Halo version xbox was a Falcon and others reporting that theirs was not.

edit: I don't have a link so you'll have to search, but there is an easy test to see if an xbox is a falcon, assuming you have access to the xbox in question.... you can look through one of the vents and see some inductors there. If there are 3 of them, you have the old style. IF there are 2 of them (and then just an empty spot on the board where a 3rd one would have gone) then you have a Falcon. If you search there are plenty of pictures out there.

Of course you have to have access to the box for that.

Yeah, I dont have the box yet to check. The real reason why I am considering buying a new 360 is because my current 360 has drive problems. Every time I play a game in the middle of a game, randomly I hear some clicking in the dvd drive, the drive spins slower, more clicking and it will eventually tell me that the disc is dirty (even though its clean and scratchless).

A lot of them were Zephyr like the initial batch of Elites. Zephyr had HDMI so that isn't a way to tell. The FAQ here has a link for the version identification steps.

If you can wait until some time next month the Fall will let you do full installs of games to the HD so it will only do disc checks with the DVD drive, that would let you keep using the dying DVD drive for a while longer.

An Arcade unit at $199 is another way to fix this problem, or MS will fix bad DVD drives after the first year for $99.

I would say its near impossible to find a Halo Falcon. Falcons really started in Premiums before they switched over to the Pro name.

Wow, I think I fixed my issue! I've had my console sideways all this time but now I put it down flat and the drive problems have reduced by alot....actually no drive problems as of yet...
