Halo 3 is maybe, probably, likely coming to PC

Microsoft is being hush-hush about it, but the evidence keeps piling up. And it's glorious.

I know I should remain skeptical... but there's just too much evidence. And with Microsoft Games Studios recently ditching GFWL and utilizing Steam for their new releases, I can't help being excited. Would anyone else here be interested in buying Halo 3 on Steam?

Oh! I get to buy a game (again) for $60 on PC that came out in 2007? Wonderful! Can't wait!

a) Not all of us own a 360

b) How do you know they'll release it for $60? I doubt they'll charge that much. $30 would be the sweet spot. $40 at most.

I actually liked Halo 2 for what it was, and hated the cliff hanger that I knew I'd never get to see how it continued. I felt cheated.

As much as I loved Halo 3 at the time, it's somewhat late for a PC version.

Why waiting so long after release for a port? It was released in 2007, it's been six years. I'll never understand that. If the game is about two years-old or so I probably wouldn't bother anymore (heck, maybe even just one year-old). What does that mean, we'll get a PC release of Halo Reach in six years from now sometime in 2019?

Additionally, it was spotted in the Steam database which surprises me, wouldn't it be exclusive to Origin? Anyway, if the price is very low then maybe I'll consider it eventually since I own Halo CE and Halo 2. And I'd like a PC release of the Anniversary HD update they did for Halo 1, in fact I'd prefer that over Halo 3.

My guess is, they're releasing it on PC because it would create a huge new community of players that didn't exist before, and it would breathe new life into the game. Even people who were previously console gamers and have recently converted to PC, will now have a PC version of one of their favorite games.

Also, think of the graphical upgrade. You'd be able to play Halo 3 in 1080p at 60fps, something the 360 isn't capable of doing.

Why would it be Origin-exclusive? The Halo series isn't associated with EA at all.

They are waiting (if it does come out) so long because it is their consoles best exclusive. If they released it on the PC soon after the Xbox version a lot of people probably wouldn't even bother owning an Xbox.

Why would it be Origin exclusive? That makes no sense at all. MS has been using Steamworks for their games for a little while now and I don't even think they have any of their games on Origin off the top of my head.

EDIT:

As for the game itself. I vaguely remember playing H3 when it came out. I do remember liking it. I will grab it if it comes out on the PC depending on price.

I do wonder if they are going to try and make it Windows 8 exclusive? lol

Right. This is another good reason I forgot to mention.

Remember the first Xbox? Halo was it's only redeeming exclusive. It might as well have been a Halo machine. Of course, the 360 had a much more improved game library, but the Halo series is still Microsoft's killer app. Gotta keep it exclusive to sell more Xboxes.

I lost interest in Halo after game 1 when it no longer became available for PC. There are too many other games to choose from. However, I do NOT judge a game just because it's more than 1 or 2 years old! Right now I am playing Oblivian and loving it. I haven't played Witcher 2 yet, though I will in the next few weeks. And I just bought Morrowind, which I plan to mod with 3.0 (or whatever is most recent) complete overhaul. I think there are some games which stand the test of time very well.:)

Speaking of... anywhere I can buy a digital download version of Halo 2 for the PC?

Exclusive to Origin  ... are you drunk? It's a Microsoft game so it'll most likely have GFWL as well as be on steam. No connection to EA or Origin so I'm not sure what you're getting at.

It will probably require Windows 8 / 8.1, like that Halo twin-stick-shooter thing.

Microsoft is desperate to get more people to move to 8.x, so it would make sense.

Microsoft is using Steamworks now and not GFWL. Their past few games have not used GFWL.

Also, don't be too hard on Zenoth. Probably just had a brain fart. :D

It's possible. They did it with Halo 2 and Vista, and now they're doing it with Project Spark and Windows 8. So who knows.

To answer your question OP, yes, if I Steam I would definitely be interested and likely buy it (not for $60 though).

Pisses me off that Microsoft never includes the PC community with the release of the Halo games until years after the initial release. Douche bags

It pisses me off, but I understand the decision from a business perspective...

I haven't played anything past Halo 2. My plan was to wait for the xbox one release and then buy a 360 to catch up on all the Halo games. But if they have good controller support, I'd definitely consider playing on the PC. Plus the multiplayer community would be nice and fresh.

I thought that was gonna be an almost no way in hell thing like Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy (non MMO, and not 7/8)

This late in time it would make more sense to offer a "Halo Saga" collection like the HD ports the PS3 has gotten for PS2 games like Ratchet & Clank and God of War.

Updated graphics and the single-player parts Halo 1-4 in one game.

Well you can use it on Windows 7 that's what I do.

I hope this is true. I love Halo. Every single bit.
