Halo 3 Goes Gold

Most Anticipated Title of 2007 Released to Manufacturing, Begins Final March to Xbox 360

The wait is almost over. ?Halo 3,? the final chapter in the groundbreaking ?Halo? trilogy and the most anticipated game release of 2007, has been released to manufacturing.

Three years in the making by renowned developer Bungie Studios, ?Halo 3? is now finished and will begin its journey to store shelves around the world in less than four weeks. ?Halo 3,? which has already set new records as the fastest preordered game in history, has exceeded one million presales in North America alone. The title is set to shatter day-one entertainment sales records when it is released worldwide beginning Tuesday, Sept. 25.

?This is a huge milestone for us and a big cause for celebration at Bungie and Microsoft Game Studios,? said Harold Ryan, Studio Head at Bungie Studios. ?This is the game we?ve always wanted to make and certainly the best game our studio has developed. We can?t wait for gamers to get their hands on it on Sept. 25.?

Created by legendary developer Bungie Studios and exclusive to the Xbox 360? video game and entertainment system, ?Halo 3? will set a new standard for interactive storytelling and social gaming by engaging consumers worldwide in Master Chief?s epic battle to save humankind. In November 2004, the world?s view of video games changed forever with the release of ?Halo 2,? which generated a record-setting $125 million (U.S.) in sales within the first 24 hours and changed the way people think about interactive entertainment. Three years later, it remains the most-played game on Microsoft?s Xbox LIVE® online gaming and entertainment network, with nearly 1 billion hours of online gaming logged to date.

I don't know - CoD4 could possibly be the Halo killer for the 360. H3 kills GeOW and then CoD4 kills H3. Atleast in multiplayer ...

Not a chance in hell of that happening. While CoD4 may end up being good, it just doesn't have the following. Halo 3 multiplayer is going to be around for a LONG time. Look at Halo 2... it's not going to be killed off anytime soon, no matter what games are released. CoD4 comes out like a month or longer after H3? Most people will just be getting into the multiplayer by that point.

Halo 3 hurting CoD4 is much more likely..

Agreed with chrisg22. Unlike CoD4, Halo will not have another freaking sequel coming out at the same time next year to kill the multiplayer.

Back on topic, can't wait for Halo 3. It's my most anticipated title this year now that GTA4 decided to walk into next year :).

Agreed. Even if CoD4's multiplayer is clearly better, it will never have the same following. Almost everyone that owns Call of Duty will also own Halo. The reverse will not be true.

Halo being released first will also help. Personally, I have a limit on how many first person shooters i'll play at one time. If Halo3 is still holding my attention, I won't be buying COD4 until i'm bored.

I just hope they are prepared and get more than enough copies of the game out, because I don't have a preorder and I want to pick it up right away ;)

Some buddies and I are going to take the 26th off of work to play this game. Multiple hdtvs/xboxs in the same living room will make the campaign so much fun. Did I mention that I am excited?

I don't get it. do they really need 1 month to mass produce the game?

well maybe since I notice some of my games have been "made in mexico" they need the extra time but still.

it should take them nearly a month to produce a few million copies.

Remember Halo 2? They sold like 2 million copies on day one and didn't have any trouble keeping them on shelves. Discs are easy to mass produce, and they're much better off overproducing than under producing, especially with the Legendary edition. I'm not getting it personally, but I'd have to imagine most (if not all) of the $60 markup is profit.

Well, the game already has something like 2 million pre-orders or some such ridiculous number. It's not just the producing but the distribution to all the retailers as well.

Agreed. COD4 can't touch Halo 2 or 3 in terms of being a "killer". It won't even make the top 5 games played on XBox Live.

From what I have read online(Iup/IGn and others), COD4 is THE fps on the 360.

Halo 3 didn't even make it in IGN's top 5
Best First-Person Shooter:
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Developer: Infinity Ward
Publisher: Activision
Release Date: November 2007
Show at E3 on: PC, PS3, X360
Also Coming to: N/A

We're glad to see Infinity Ward return with its standout Call of Duty series. We're even more pleased that it didn't return to World War II. Frankly, if we had to shoot yet another M1 Carbine at Nazis, our heads may have exploded out of boredom.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Combat takes the series, as the title so obviously suggests, into more recent times. As a U.S. Marine, you'll plunge into hostile territory throughout Russia, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East, waging a fictional war against a nefarious group known as The Four Horseman. The game seems to offer much of the same gameplay present in Call of Duty and its sequel: straightforward single-player stages highlighted by some of the most intense action sequences out there. While the first Call of Duty's single-player campaign was a thrill ride, the multiplayer is what kept it alive. Infinity Ward is switching a few things up by implementing a class-based gameplay system where each type has different special abilities, primary weapons, side arms, and grenades. Based on what we've seen thus far, and Infinity Ward's development history, we're quite confident Call of Duty 4 will turn out well.

# Runner(s)-Up:
# BioShock (X360 - 2K Games)

Other Nominees:
# Crysis (PC - Electronic Arts)
# Killzone 2 (PS3 - Sony Computer Entertainment)
# Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii - Nintendo)

No offense, but that is kind of an ignorant statement. However, I will say that I've almost become more interested in COD4 than Halo 3, especially since I enjoyed BF2 on the PC. Nevertheless, 4-player online co-op and at least some form of vehicular combat in multiplayer gives Halo the edge, for now. :)

I met up with some friends the other night. I had to remind them of what they COD franchise was. When I talked about it, at best I got a few "sounds interesting" comments.
Yet there anticipation for Halo is the usual. Pre-ordered, can't wait, taking time off of work, etc.

there is a difference between geeks like us reading reviews, articles, blogs everyday, and guys that just play games, even if it is hours at a time.

well cod4 multiplayer is much better but the Halo fan boys won't give it a shot. I'm quite sure Halo will trounce COD4.

It depends on your style. Some people like the ultra-customizable and ton-of-gametypes multiplayer of Halo, others like the gritty, more realistic multiplayer style that CoD4 promises.

But when did CoD4 even enter any discussions as being the multiplayer game to beat? I sure haven't heard much about past CoD titles being awesome for multiplayer (although I'm sure they were great).

It's not a matter of fanboi's really. It is that it turned fps on console naysayers into believers while delivering many fps innovations so it could appeal to die fps fans on anything guys.
COD4 is just a polished shooter, I mean really polished, shiny, and immaculate. But it really hasn't invented much.

Well for me it has been since the COD4 mp beta came out and > the Halo 3 beta. I'm still getting both though.

I can't believe the hype for this game. I'll be waiting to hear back from those that just got to have it, before I shell out any cash.

I'm leaning toward Halo 3 because I really enjoy playing Halo / Halo 2 on the xbox with friends, even though I absolutely suck! :)

I want to think I want to pick this up at some point, but the idea of getting trounced by 12 year old kids, not to mention their running commentary, is a definite turnoff. Do you think there will be any good, friendly, laid-back places to play these games online?

I will, however, definitely be picking up MOH:A and COD4 when they're released. Can't wait!
