Halo 3 Ending Question **SPOILERS!!**

I played the last level (from the last checkpoint) on legendary and watched after the credits where it shows master chief talking to cortana inside of the crippled spaceship and he goes into stasis, telling cortana to wake him when he's needed. It then shows some ship drifting towards a planet and the flood music starts to play, then the cutscene ends.

First off, what ship was that supposed to be drifting towards that planet? I thought that High Charity was destroyed by Master Chief, so what did the flood use to travel on?

And is there more to this ending if I beat the whole last level on legendary? I've only beaten it from the last checkpoint on legendary.

You got the same ending that I did and I played through the whole game on Legendary.

My roomate tells me that people who have read the most recent Halo book say that is Onyx. I'm not sure about the ship as I don't know what happened exactly, since Master Chief and the Arbiter both get on the same ship, but then the Arbiter makes it to Earth (or wherever they are in that scene) and the Chief doesn't. Maybe the Arbiter's half got through the portal before the big explosion.

Yeah, I also assumed that the ship was split in half and the Arbiter ended up with the rest of the humans in his half of the ship and the Chief with Cortana in the other half. I was just wondering about the other ship, and we'll have to see if some people on here who have read the books say the same thing about it being Onyx.

Yup...same ship, but his half got split off by the blast. (Since Cortana was still in the computer/stand)

ANOTHER CLIFFHANGER!?

Yeah, but it looks like Onyx. It was hard to tell with the sun shining, but the whole planet seemed to be dark. It fits the description in the book of the planet which is made out of sentinels. Looks like the Halo series doesn't end just yet.

Actually, the ship that MC and the arbiter are on sped away from the exploding Ark, to go back through the portal that got them there in the first place after level 4. When the ship was halfway through the portal, the Ark exploded, causing the portal to die, which effectively cut the ship in half. The arbiter had sat in the front seat, which you saw previously, so his half of the ship made it back to earth and crashed into the ocean where he was rescued. The back half of the ship, where MC was, basically got lost in space in the middle of nowhere, since nobody really knows where the Ark is (the portal was their only knowledge of it's location). Cortana said she'd set off a beacon, but it could take years before anyone found them. So, MC crawled into the cryo-chamber to put himself in a deep sleep until they were found. If Cortana needs him, she'll wake him.

That doesn't seem to be the case when you watch the legendary ending. It seem instead of someone finding them, they found someone or something else.

They should have shown his face. He has a face. with a big nose, why not just show it already instead of making ppl find bugs in the game to see it?

Prequel to the game Marathon. Go research that game. You wake up on a strange planet after a 200year cryostasis sleep with a ship born AI that is corrupt with an alien race attempting to crack it.

That's wierd, if the Halo storyline relaly does lead into the one of Marathon. But is Cortana corrupted anymore?

Sounds like the kind of contrived continuity-after-the-fact that George Lucas would come up with 😛

That would be kind of cool but actually in Marathon 1 you are supposed to be a "security officer" on board a ship called Marathon made out of the Mars' moon Deimos. You then learn that you are one of the 10 Mjolnir Mark Cyborgs. The Cryostasis thing happens in Marathon 2 Durandal but thats after the events in Marathon 1. If Halo and Marathon ever do connect, the ending of Halo 3 (as described to me) doesn't really sound as it would fit with Marathon's beginning or backstory.

So it shows something else/different than the final scene with the flood ship floating towards the "cyber" planet?
