Halo 3 Disappointment?

Who here is disappointed with Halo 3? With the way the story ended? With how the multiplayer is shaping up? Is this enough for Call of Duty 4 to take the title #1 Shooter of 2007?

The Halo machine is beyond huge. The "Halo killer" is just a myth because it simply doesn't exist. So while you might like Call of Duty 4 better, Halo is pretty much the top game due to its popularity.

I wasn't disappointed. Could it have been better? Definitely. When you think about it, Halo does have some significant flaws, however, there's something about the games that causes me to not notice them as I'm having fun playing. Obviously this is not the case for everyone.

As for the story, did you see the full ending? You saw the bit after the credits? Did you beat it on Legendary or see that ending? The ending would've been crappy without seeing the full one (well really it was crappy except for the last little extra bit). My friend hated it until he saw the last part.

I've never been into the Halo series until recently, and I think Halo 3 is a fantastic game.

one word...HUGE as in HUGE disappointment. it just doesnt equal what it should. for as long as it took to come out, for all the money spent on development, for all they hurrah and hype. its under graphic under gameplay under everything. im pissed I spent any money on it let alone the 70 for the special edition.

The single and multiplayer gameplay is top notch, but it does a terrible job of telling its own story. There are plot summaries of each of the games and books on the internet that do a 100x better job of getting the major story points across.

EDIT: Oh, and I wholeheartedly agree with an earlier mugs thread that complained about the vehicle controls. So the gameplay does take a minor knock there.

Not in the least, which is almost surprising. I am usually disappointed with sequels or overly hyped games, but Halo 3 just felt right to me. A few of my friends had complaints though.

I didn't buy into the hype like a did with halo 1 and 2 so i wasn't disappointed.

I thought the story and SP was pretty good. However, I don't like multiplayer. It's laggy, there aren't dedicated servers, it takes forever to get in a game (and usually they aren't even against people with my rank), and it just feels broken. Grenades are weak, the main weapon is weak, and things like the shotgun and sniper rifle are still overpowered.

It just isn't that great. Halo 1 was awesome to me, but 2 and 3 are highly overrated. Fun, but disappointing and overrated.

I just bought my first XBOX 360 about 4 weeks ago. I also bought The Orange Box and Halo 3. I cannot stand Halo 3. It's just not very fun. Very linear. Typical run, shoot, run, shoot. The controls are strange. The music is boring and unimaginative. Maybe it's because I've built up a lot of anticipation from listening to all the Halo fans over the past several years.

I haven't played it yet (I'll probably be getting a 360 next year sometime), but I saw it live for the first time yesterday. It wasn't on a high-def TV which hurt I'm sure, but I wasn't overly impressed with the graphics. Not that that is really an indictment of the game, though.

i purchased a xbox 360 for halo 3, so basicially i have a 400$ copy of halo 3, and im very satisfied with that,

i would have liked it to be longer but that is it, i felt it all came together perfectly, was it the best game ever? no prob not, but i give it a 9.5/10 which is in line with what the majority of people think

You're complaining about how long it took to come out? Do you know anything about development? Halo 2 was released late 2004... Halo 3 was released late 2007. Three years is hardly a long time for a quality sequel to be released... and that's expecting that Bungie started work immediately and had the Xbox360 devkits ready to go.

I'm not at all disappointed with Halo 3. I love playing multiplayer. I love the integration with Bungie.net. I love the fast gameplay and ability to just jump right into a game. Could it be better? Of course, but I'm very happy with it.

yep I really didn't like Ep2. Hell, HL 2 is OK, but having to use a f'ing flashing all the time is irritating as hell.

Are we playing the same game? The only time I've really experienced lag was Monday night when my DSL connection went to crap. I had to quit after a couple of games games where I reset my modem and router each time in between. I'm always ranked against people near me.

How can you say the grenades are weak? If you get stuck by a plasma or spike grenade, you're dead. If a frag grenade goes of near you, you're shields are gone and you're just one shot from death.

Sniper rifles take two shots unless you get them in the head. You have to be up close with the shotgun for it to have any effect.

Like I said, are you sure you're playing Halo 3?

I *LOVED* Halo 1, and was super excited for Halo 2. I got it, was extremely underwhelmed, and now I couldn't give two shits about Halo 3.

3 is much more like 1 then 2, its worth playing IMO

because they fixed 90% of the problems that plagued the halo 2 multiplayer.

i still don't see why people are comparing Halo 3 to COD4. other than being FPS they are nothing alike at all. i will continue to play both of them pretty much equally.

cod4 is fast paced run and gun, 1 shot can kill type of gameplay, whereas halo is a slower paced game with alien weapons that i think is more team oriented than call of duty 4 is.

1.) I've only had lag in a couple of games out of the almost 200 matches I've logged online since launch. IMO, net code is solid.

2.) I never understood the whining about the lack of dedicated servers. Being a part time PC gamer myself, I just don't find it to be an issue. The only time I would want to see dedicated servers is if the online population dropped to severely low levels (which will never be an issue with Halo).

3.) I've also only experienced very few problems getting into games. I've had a half a dozen times when it sat there long enough for me to give up, or to back out and go back in, but that doesn't bother me given the percentage of times this happens. This is no worse than trying to join dedicated servers that show almost full, only for it to sit there connecting for more than a few seconds then tell you the server is full.

4.) The Halo party system is the best multiplayer system out there, IMO. It does benefit from the game's huge popularity, though, being that there are always plenty of people playing at any given moment.

5.) I don't feel grenades are weak. If they were any more powerful, multiplayer matches would suck. You have to score damn near hits to kill somehow, otherwise they serve as great "softening" tools.

6.) The main weapon is anything but weak, but even if it was, do you want people running around with the most powerful weapon in the game from the outset? I rarely change from the main weapon, and my k/d ratio isn't too shabby.

7.) How are the shotgun and sniper rifle underpowered? The shotgun is useless from more than 20 feet away, and understandly strong in close. The sniper rifle is a two-body-hit kill, one-headshot-kill, and you need some type of skill to aim the thing, just like in most online games.

I really, really, really hate to sound like the proto-typical Halo/360 fanboy, but Halo 3 is one of the most balanced multiplayer available on any console. Unfortunately, you can't say anything good about Halo on the internet without being labeled a fanboy these days.

And I still cannot stand the term overrated in the same sentence with Halo 3. Ask the 1 million + people who still play the game every day a month after release if it's overrated (atleast it was still over a million last week when I last looked).

Exactly. I keep my expectations realistic, my suspension of disbelief handy, and my cynical critic side in check, and it results in many hours of enjoyment. 🙂

Not only in terms of the weapons, but also the matchmaking. Over the past couple of days, I had at least 2 games of team slayer that were decided by ONE kill. Most of the time, they're decided by less than 5 kills because of Bungie's matchmaking system. It works, and it works well to keep the game interesting and fun.

Could you elaborate a bit on that? I still haven't jumped in the MP yet, so since I'm a newblet, they won't throw me to the proverbial wolves? But instead put me on a team that will face a very similarly balanced opposing team?
