Halo 3 Beta: What did you think?

Now that it's over, whats everyones opinion of the beta?

Personally I thought it was awesome and my only complaint was that the maps got old, but it's a beta so I won't complain about that. I managed to get into a customs game, and I must say that it's the most fun I've had in a long time.

Anyone else like/dislike it?

I admittedly only played for an hour but it seemed like most other FPSes that I've played.

That said, I still have it preordered but that's probably because I'm a mainstream game slut. 😛 Actually, I probably would have enjoyed it had I put more time in, but I just bought my first 360 as the beta began so I was too busy playing Crackdown/Guitar Hero II/Viva Pinata/Gears of War.

I thought it was enjoyable if not overly spectacular. I think the best time I had playing was playing with some of the guys from here. I'm interested to see the improvements that they'll make and the additional game modes.

I just hope they manage to drastically shorten the time it takes to find a match.

I thought it was fantastic, although I got bored quickly with it only being a beta with 3 maps. This is obviously understandable, but I'm now looking forward to the full version in September with great anticipation. I'm more of a single-player kinda guy, but I will be hopping on multiplayer quite a bit.

Halo 3 rocked IMO.

The one thing I noticed in the game that I REALLY REALLY loved was that I hardly saw any duel wielding people. Starting people out with the assault rifle is going to make match making MUCH more fun than it was before. It's a weapon that you can usually hold your own with in most situations when you spawn. And you won't see someone with 2 AR's against your 1 (like you did with the SMG in h2) so you won't be beat based on that fact.

I also REALLY liked the needler.

I wasn't really feeling the items. I think they are very gimmicky as a whole and don't add much to the gameplay.

I also think that Valhala will turn intot he new coagulation.

The shield doors on Snowbound are terrible IMO. They need to make it so you can temporarily turn them off, or make it so you can drop into the inside from atop the building. The time I realized just how horrible those shield doors are is when I played team ball on that map.

I also think the pistol sucks. It fires WAY too slow. I do like how the sword has ammo now. That is a welcome addition on my part.

Halo 3 is a GREAT step up from halo 2 as they seemed to have fixed a lot of issues I had (although the weapon respawn system still is terrible), but I agree with mzkhadir that it's not quite up to par with Halo1 gameplay. But that's understandable because the game is for the masses, not for the hardcore competitors only.

Last but not least, the sound in Halo 3 is AMAZING. I LOVE the sound in the game!

I really liked the addition of the equipment, although I think it takes a little to long to deploy the bubble shield. I also think that vehicles shouldn't be able to get through it, but then again that might make it too powerful.

I'm also interested in all the different armor customizations there will be in the retail build. Sure they don't add anything to gameplay but they're cool nonetheless.

The maps were pretty good but it doesn't feel like much has changed, feels more like a map pack then a new game although I will reserve judgment till the game is released

I agree that there isn't as big of a difference as there was from Halo 1 to Halo 2, but features like dual wielding and boarding vehicles are pretty big changes. I feel that they did a good job of improving what they had with Halo 2 with adding some of Halo: CE back.

It was good and I think the fans of Halo's multiplayer will be pleased, but I'm personally enjoying Warhawk's beta considerably more. I love Halo's co-op campaigns, but don't really play much MP.
