about cheating on halo 2.

anyone who is still playing on xbox live and is above a level 10 or so i'm sure has experienced cheating. bungie announced they have banned or suspended thousands of users for doing so. this is definitely a good thing 🙂

I can't believe they would ban for cursing though (despite what it says in the terms). It's not like XBL is a free service where people are indifferent about whether they are welcome or not..

there are quiet a few different ways. do some searches on the net and you can find em out.

the two major ones are termed "dummy"ing and "stand-by".

I'm curious as well. I thought that was one benefit of Xbox Live...free from the cheating that goes on in all the PC online games.

one form is a hardware glitch. if the host hits the standby button on their modem, it will lag everyone out to the blue screen, but the host can continue to run around. they can walk around for probably 30 seconds with no one else in the map. then once they get the flag, they hit standby again and everyone returns, but the flag has mysteriously been already taken to score.

the dummy is more of a glitch, but it is considered cheating. basically a person is invisible to everyone else. to everyone else, he will be standing still wherever a warthog picks him up, but on his screen the warthog has moved him to wherever he wants. however if the "dummy" moves, he will teleport back to where his actual body is by the original place the warthog picked him up. but you can do this for example.

-dummy glitch outside one base on coagulation (the player model will be by his base, but the invisible/dummy guy will be in the warthog).
-they drop him off right outside of the other base.
-someone grabs the flag and throws it to the dummy guy, or drops it right next to him.
-the dummy holds x and picks up the flag
-the dummy then moves which transports him back to his model, right next to his base.
-he brings it 10 feet into his base and scores.

however if the other team finds the actual model and kills it, the dummy will die.

these cheats aren't ones that come up accidently, these people are looking to find glitches in the game and take advantage of em.

Haven't heard of those cheats but those are quite interesting. I'm glad these bans will go against all the stupid crap talkers though, god I hate those people. I had one guy talk sh!t all day long and I let him grab rocket first, then pwned him with a Battle Rifle, then pwned him 9-0 before he called me a rocket douche (despite only 2 of those kills being with rockets), cussing me out, then quitting.

On a side note - I wonder if the flying sword trick is also being punished. I've seen it used a few times (and a cousin and myself learned how to do it offline and messed aroudn with it)

Edit: and I know a few above 10's that are just honestly good players (from Halo over XBC) - my friend Brad (N1GEL) is a 17 last time I checked and just romps on people without trying.

no you won't get banned for that. the little glitches they consider just that, glitches. and ones like that can be easily defended against. these other cheats you can't easily defend against at all.

grabbing objects through walls is also not bannable.
