Halo 2 worth getting XBOX LIVE for?

Hey guys,

I'm picking up my copy of Halo 2 from Gamestop tonight at midnight and while I was just planning on playing Single Player I was wondering if its worth getting xbox live for Halo in general. I know no ones played Halo 2 on xbox live yet but by midnight tonight there will be plenty of gamers on there.

I'm just not sure if there is enough to do on Halo multiplayer to justify paying the monthly fee for xbox live. Maybe you guys might have a comment or 2 about it.

Let me know =)! Thanks guys!

First, keep in mind they say the single player game can be completed in about 10 hours. And second, Halo 2 multiplayer is touted as ridiculously fun. For those reasons, I'm finally doing it. I'm going to subscribe to XBL.

I don't like how they "tie" you down though... say if you quit a game cause you just don't feel like playing anymore or have to get dinner, etc... I'm used to multiplayer UT2k4 where if I wanna leave, I say PEACE.

If you like fps' , online component is half (or more) of the game's selling point. So yea xbox live would be good to have to experience all of halo 2. Plus I heard there is downloadable content.

Man you guys have me sold already... I just posted this thing like 2 minutes ago. I'm getting all excited now =)!

With Halo 2, you shouldn't be "tied" down, as you put it, because it works just like UT2K4. You may be thinking of other online games like Madden, where it's only 1vs1, so if one quits, then you are penalized in rankings. But with Halo 2, it's just like all other FPS online games, where you can join a game when you want, and leave a game when you want. Most of the time, there will be anywhere from 8-15 other players, so you're quitting a game will not affect the others, therefore there's no reason to penalize quitters.

the length of the game shouldn't be determined by difficulty. Are there different scenarios/characters in more difficult settings ? Unfortunately not. An avg game of Halo 2 all the way through is supposed to be 10 hours. Making it more difficult for yourself is beside the point.

If Halo2 comes with two months free XBL and I already have 3 months free from when I bought my Xbox last year that I've never used (if it's still good that is), can I get 5 months free or does MS monitor that too?

I wasn't referring to FPS exclusively. I also have NHL2k5, NFL2k5, , ESPN Baseball, PGR2 to play online... not games with that many players. So that's why I've been hesitant to pick up XBL for a subscription fee and be tied down.

no its not, if you put halo 1 on easy you can just run through evbery level shooting some people if you want to and not die, try that on legendary and you will be dead in about 10 seconds,

if you are saying it wont take any longer on a legendary then IMO you have never plaied it on legendary, its a totally different game from even Heroic, each stage takes time and planning to get through due to the ammount of enemies and the fact that if they can shoot you they will hit you and you will die

im pretty sure it comes with the 2 months free, as most of the xbox live games now a days do. HOWEVER these free 2 month passes can only be used ONE time. Like you can't use 3 different 2 month trials to get 6 free months. If you DO do that, you have to create 3 different accounts, with 3 different usernames.

I actually have 2 of the 2month trials sitting around from burnout 3 and mortal kombat: deception. The only one I used was the one that came with Tiger Woods 2k5. Unfortunately I also purchased a starter kit when I got Tiger Woods because I didn't know it came with the 2 months. I would not have spend $70 on the starter kit if I had known that, because no one really plays Crimson Skies anymore on there (that came with the starter kit).

my 2 month trial ends in about 2 weeks, but I have my 1yr thing left still from the starter kit so I'm okay. But if anyone in here wants any 2 month trials, shoot me a PM. I would gladly give them to someone, but I don't have any stamps right now to mail em out. I'm in MD.

and on topic, yes Halo 2 will rock on XBox Live. Xbox Live is like 100x better than System Link play (ie, xbconnect) as the userbase is MUCH greater, and you don't need a computer to play online. I was VERY VERy impressed with the whole xbox live interface when I got it 6 weeks ago, and now I'm playing games I never would have played if I hadn't gotten xbox live. You honestly haven't really experienced XBox until you have XBox Live, and I think anyone who has it will agree.

also, anyone know any places selling Halo 2 before midnight tonight? I have to work tomorrow early and am not purchasing it at midnight 🙁

EDIT: and the yearly price is like $50/yr. thats like $4/mo. if you can afford Halo 2, I think you can afford live 🙂

I'm not saying it won't take longer on Legendary. That would be assinine. The point is, the game is not that extensive. Did I choose an understandable word this time ?

no that makes sence now, the way you phrased it the first time mad eit seem like no matter what in 10 hours you woudl beat it

I played the halo 2 live multiplayer beta and it was incredible. if you like playing console fps' online, then theres nothing better.

Halo is like a GoldenEye game, its multiplayer is more fun if you have buddies close by to enjoy it. If you're going to play online you might as well stick to PC games as Halo is no more original or thrilling than other PC shooter games. I guess it would offer good practice when you're alone and want to sharpen your abilities for when you have friends over.

I really do prefer PC FPS since its easier to aim with the mouse but I can see myself getting better with the XBOX controllers. Can you hook up a mouse and keyboard for Halo 2 with a USB adapter?

The Gamespot reviewer seemed to agree. 10 hours or so for the single player campaign. They also felt that the story was not nearly as satisfying as the first Halo. That being said, they loved the multiplayer aspect.

Still, to me, 10 hours isn't nearly enough playtime for the single player portion. Should have been at least 18 or so.

with the 2 month trials, can you just grab downloadable content and other games' roster downloads also ? That's actually 50% of the reason I want XBL... I hate stale rosters.
