Halo 2 Vista

It's an awesome game in my opinion. Only problem is multiplayer can be slightly under-populated at times 🙁. More people should play this game, has a good campaign mode and runs well with 16x AA and 16x AF. I did go below 30 FPS one time for a second today, but it was a giant scene with smoke etc. Here are some screenshots 🙂.

Not half bad graphics either. Textures can be kind of bad at times but overall decent.

That's at half my native resolution, i scaled it in paint for all you 56k'rs 😛.

It took me a while, but I really enjoyed the MP of Halo 1 on the PC.

I'll pick it up if it's cheap and runs decent on my system. How would it run on an E8400 @ 3.9Ghz with a 4830 and 4GB of RAM?

bandwagon mentality... it seems more people are playing Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty, TF2...

plus like it or not, Halo attracts primarily Xbox 360 players.

Blue, it would run like awesome probably. I would say its about as demanding as FEAR 1. I have E6300 @ 2.66 4GB RAM and a GTX 260. You can probably run maxed without any AA, or maybe like 2X.

I bought it because Halo 2 was my favorite game 😛. I loved Halo 2 for XBox 1. Halo 3 I have but never played it really, got two hours into campaign and saved and shut off 360. Turned it back on and my progress was gone so I never played it again. I never even played MultiPlayer lol.

I fully expect that between the Vista Only limitation, and the simple reality that anybody who cares about halo has an xBox, the population should be next to nil.

The game came out on Vista only at a time when most people were on XP.

And then when Vista became popular, Halo 3 was already out on the Xbox360 and us (PC gamers) had much better titles coming out.

Microsoft was foolish for making the game Vista only. Nobody was going to rush to Vista for Halo 2 like those 12 year old console gamers.

I see, well im rather upset because I was just about to go into like a boss fight (Prophet) and my video card locked up >😱 and i lost like 45 mins of save :'(

Mainly this.

It was a fun to play though on co-op once, and only once. Also haven't seen it selling for under $10 so no deal there (rented it for console). Then there's the vista only thing, I will never use vista along with many many others be it justified or not. Haven't played H2 MP, but I have tried H3 MP and lost all faith in the online console gaming community and am now of the view Yahtzee was right in calling console gamers the dirty pesetas and PC gamers the master race, oh and the maps where terrible along with such a limited number of players.

It wasn't that good a game.

Granted, I play a lot of console ports on PC, but this one was just stupid. It came out close to the release of Halo 3 and it required Vista, for no good reason. Were they nuts?

Yea For some reason they thought it would be a killer app on the PC as well. Halo will NEVER be a killer app on PC.

Yeah that, and it required vista which i suspect stunted its growth compared to halo 1, plus halo 2 was crap anyways. Halo 1 was great, 2 bored me, 3 was too short but better.

Weakest game in the series.

I bought it when it came out but it ran like shit on my 8600GT. The fact that it ran on a P3/733 on the Xbox and it needed (reasonably) bad ass hardware to run on the PC shows what kind of crappy port it was. I thought the graphics were horrible and gameplay boring.

This - Vista is not widely adopted yet.

Bandwagon mentality my ass. The game is old and most of the players have moved onto other games.

Older game, console port, and um... it's Halo.
Still not getting the hype as to why Halo is so revolutionary or OMG BEST GAME EVAAARR!

I've played it, owned it, and played Halo 3 many times with my buddies or roommates... it's definitely a complete package, no lie. It's got just about everything in multiplayer, with many weapon types that just make custom matches so damn fun. But to me I merely think its a console game that didn't touch the formula but rather improved upon and added a lot of extras. Fun, but not addicting imho.
And thus, not worth even owning on the PC. Far more enjoyable FPS games available on the PC. That is, for my tastes. It's not the kind of game I'd like to play on the PC in terms of multiplayer, and really, it's not even the type I'd like to play on consoles. It's fun playing at a buddy's house but that's it for me.

Its pretty mediocre compared to other FPS games on PC.. I never really got Halo...

Ultimately it was one of the first console FPS games last generation to just get it right with the original Halo, and then Halo 2 brought true multiplayer IIRC. Halo 3 saw the implementation of all the good stuff, and seemingly right stuff.

I give Bungie credit. They can make a game that just comes together as very appealing. If only now that they aren't tied up by Microsoft to push out Halo games, maybe they'll release some PC specific or multiplatform titles.
They were originally a Mac game studio, then switched to PC, then Microsoft swooped in and stole them.
Oni was a great and fun title. Not superb by any means, but it was super fun. 🙂

Regardless, console FPS games have always had some quirk. There have always been the successes, but none that really drove hordes upon hordes to foam at the mouth for. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were two N64 games that came pretty close, and other games that weren't entirely true FPS games as the PC norm was at the time, and what the console FPS games offer now.

Halo just bridged the gap, caught consoles up to speed, made it accessible and offered all the next-gen improvements that enabled a more cohesive game. And an evolving multiplayer that became a full-fledged runaway success on Xbox Live was never really OMG worthy until Halo 3. Before then, Halo 2 was meh, and Halo 1 was only local MP and hacked online. It was the standards of the game itself that led to the rabid fanboy base, and MP followed suit as it grew and grew.

It's a solid game. Doesn't really evolve the genre in multiplayer one bit, but it definitely meets all the current standards, and has a certain flair. Respectable achievement for the devs, but still... nothing OMG worthy. Especially for PC standards. And console games now are really giving it a run for the money, but the loyal rabid fanbase and that need to justify your fanship by essentially staying loyal and bashing all other games, to the point that either you play other games briefly, mostly only to convince yourself its terrible and not giving it a chance... or even skipping it all together and simply sticking to your guns as is without real experience otherwise. The fanboy phenomenon is strong in the console world.

Didn't you get the memo? Vista is a horrible OS. The game was released only for Vista and by association is a horrible piece of software. My Uncle works with computers for a living and told me about all of the DRM they put in your files. He told me that Microsoft has a way of looking at your computer through the Internet and we all know how bad Microsoft is as a whole. I would never trust them especially if they can look at your hard drives. It's also slower and crashes a lot. Sounds like a lose lose situation all around.

Microsoft thought it required Vista, but it really doesn't. Anyone who really wants to play it on XP can do it any time of the day and they don't need to pirate it, you can buy it and then look for the method to make it possible on Google, I won't post that here. I know, because I've done it myself, but that was a year ago or so, I've sold it to a friend ever since, I preferred the original Halo, in fact Halo 2 is the worst of the trilogy.

So much garbage in one post, astonishing!

I'm majoring in computer science and know quite a bit about computers outside of that. Vista has DRM, yes...but outside of that, almost everything about your post is just wrong. Sorry. I think you missed the memo of almost everyone else on these forums (unless you never venture into the OS section).

Either way, decent game, crappy port.
