Interesting. I suppose there are pockets of more conservative Christians everywhere. The version I typically see across the Midwest in mainline protestant which is mostly "keep to yourself" Christianity. Even the evangelicals in the Midwest are quite moderate relative to their southern counterparts. I had coffee in Madison about a year ago and was very impressed by how cosmopolitan and well kept it was for a smaller metro area.It was in Dane County.

That brings back memories.
I had a friend in grade school who played guitar. He liked all the heavy metal bands back then. Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Ozzy, AC/DC, Motley Crue, etc. The problem was his father was a Baptist minister. And so, he would always have his records and guitar taken from him because he was always caught listening to the devil's music. This is what his dad would say about those bands. Anyway, the one metal band he was allowed to listen too was Stryper. His dad was not a nice guy. That is putting it mildly.

plus if you're a JW then you can't even celebrate your own birthday or christmas or easter or thanksgiving or basically any holiday
as soon as my JW cousins got out of the house, they started throwing themselves big birthday bashes

I don't understand the whole Halloween thing. My impression is it's largely a US invention, that's been imported here - but then I hear Northerners and Scots claiming that that 'trick or treating' nonsense has it's own traditional roots here. Wasn't a thing when I was a child in Southern England, but I really am confused as to where it all actually comes from.
I still find Guy Fawkes day/Bonfire night (aka "sell explosives to idiots day") to be more interesting and meaningful. Though I think that has some contentious religious-political implications of its own.
(Funny that there are apparently long-standing "911 was an inside job" conspiracy theories about Guy Fawkes and his plot)

What's with the eye patch though? I mean if he's lost an eye and has an eye patch that's pretty cool, if he's just wearing it for fashion then it's definitely cringe! There's no in between!
They are a Christian heavy metal band dressing up like bees. I think they are well past cringe.

So I'm asking this from curiosity rather than sarcasm so I hope that it comes across ok.
What was it about the stories in Christianity that you could accept them as true as opposed to other stories that you'd call false or just tales?
